It's got the right cards to win here: It's sporty, it's PHEV, it isn't outrageously expensive and...It's a Golf |
GTE Edition
The Dutch EV market returned to more positive numbers, with 1.235 registrations, the best result since June, but even so the EV Share was slightly down to 3,89%.
Looking at the monthly models ranking, there are a few surprises, while the Outlander PHEV continues high above the competition, with 451 units, the usual Runner-Up, the swedish V60 Plug-In (250 units) had its #2 endangered by the flaming new VW Golf GTE, which, in its first real sales month, delivered 203 units.
The #4 Tesla Model S sold 136 units, which is its best 2nd Quarter month of the year, and with the AWD Model S coming this December, expect a record setting month for Tesla in the last month of the year.
In #5 we have another surprise, with the Audi A3 e-Tron landing with a bang and scoring 50 sales right on.
Pl | Model | Sales |
1 | Mit. Outlander PHEV | 451 |
2 | Volvo V60 Plug-In | 250 |
3 | Volkswagen Golf GTE | 203 |
4 | Tesla Model S | 136 |
5 | Audi A3 e-Tron | 50 |
Looking at the YTD ranking, While the Top 5 positions seem already taken, further down there is a lot going on, from the meteoric jump of the VW Golf GTE (#6 with 211 units), and the Audi A3 e-Tron (#11 with 51 units), to the promising landing of the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid (aka Plug-In), with 16 units (Strangely enough, its stablemate Panamera Plug-In score remained blank), or the encouraging result of the Nissan e-NV200, now #19, with 14 units.
Comparing some models of this ranking with their ICE competitors, we can see some bright spots this month:
- The Mitsu Outlander PHEV was the best selling SUV;
- The Volvo V60 Plug-In was the third best selling D-Segment vehicle, behind the Merc C-Class (331 units) and BMW 3-Series (279 units). The non plug-in V60 fleet collected 215 units;
- Tesla only lost the E-Segment best seller title to the BMW 5-Series (191 units), a car that starts at lower price brackets, if we compare it with E-Segment sport sedans/4-door coupe thingies, which is the real position for the american car, the Audi A7, Merc CLS and the like were simply trounced by it, as none them sold more than 20 units...
- The BMW i8 (19 units, new personal best) was the best selling Sports Car, or second best, if you consider the much lower priced BMW 2-Series (27 units) a "Sports Car".

ReplyDeleteExpect this to be the last #1 month for the Outlander PHEV. The Golf GTE will take the crown.
ReplyDeleteAfter the e-Golf performance in Norway, the behavior of the Golf GTE in Holland is the second test for the commitment of VW to plug-ins, the demand is there, let's see if the supply follows.
DeleteIf that happens, the german carmaker will achieve something unheard, as never before had the same manufacturer been the Best Seller in the Netherlands and Norway at the same time!
