BMW i3 Shines
Last month, 130 plug-ins were sold in New Zealand, tripling the result achieved in the same period last year, with the EV Share stable at 0.7%.
Looking at the models ranking, the leadership is in thehands wheels of the usual Best Seller, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with 234 units (New yearly record for a single model), that with 20 registrations in November, distanced itself from the recent threat by the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, that registered 17 units last month, the Japanese SUV now has a 36 units lead over the Korean hatchback, which should be enough to secure the 2017 title, it's Fourth in a row.
Will we a see surprise result from Hyundai in December?
The surprise result of November belonged to the BMW i3, registering 43 units, its best result ever, and almost as much registrations as it had during the whole year of 2015 (45).
In the Manufacturers ranking, the six times Best Selling Manufacturer Mitsubishi is in the lead, with 26% share (Down 2%), followed closely by Tesla (24%, down 1%), with Hyundai comfortable in Third (22% share, down 1%), so it will be an interesting leadership race to follow in December.

Comparing plug-ins with regular hybrids, we can see the results of a growing PEV market share, if in the past only the Outlander PHEV could compete with HEVs, and even then it was an occasional presence in the Top 5, now there are three plug-ins in the Top 5, with the BMW i3 and Hyundai Ioniq Electric joining the Outlander PHEV, with the German Hot Hatch even winning the Top Spot, a first for a plug-in model.
An interesting stat, is that while the BEV version of the Ioniq registered 17 units last month (81% of sales), the HEV version only did one (5%). I think this says something on what people really want.
Great update Jose, Go New Zealand
