BMW bulldogs i3's headed to Austria

Hot i3 Edition

This is currently one of the hottest markets in the world, with almost 600 new EV's being registered in Austria last month, up 166% YoY, with 3.846 units sold this year, placing the EV Share at a record 1.53%.

Looking at the models ranking, the Renault Zoe remained the leader in the YTD ranking, but the Best Seller in September was the BMW i3, scoring a best ever 152 registrations, while allowing it to climb to the Third Place, if the Renault Zoe seems too far away to be caught, the 33kWh version will likely allow the i3 to displace the Tesla Model S from Second Place.

Looking at the rest of the competition, the Mercedes B250e climbed to #6, but the main news belonged to the Tesla Model X, now #11 and looking for a Top 5 position.

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is the leader (20% Share, down 2%), with the Second Placed Volkswagen (18%, down 2%) becoming increasingly menacing, while Tesla and BMW (Both with 15%) are running for the Third Spot.

Unlike other fast-growing European markets, where the bulk of growth comes from PHEV's, in Austria plug-in hybrids remain significantly behind BEV's, with only 20% share, having inclusively lost 7% share YoY...

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is #1 (22% Share), with Second Placed Volkswagen (19%) becoming increasingly menacing, while Tesla is firm in #3, with 15% share.

Austria April 2016 (Updated)

Records Edition

More than 400 new EV's were registered in Austria last month, up 84% 87% YoY, with 1.667 units sold this year, last year record of 2.091 sales will probably fall in June(!) May, with the EV Share now at 1.52%.

Looking at the monthly models ranking, the Renault Zoe won its fourth consecutive Best Seller trophy, with 98 units, increasing its advance over the runner up Tesla Model S to over 100 units (349 vs 234), while the yearly record for a single model, set last year by the Californian (492 units), will probably be beaten by the french hatch as early as June...

This month the Tesla Model S was behind the Three Marys models (157 units for the BMW 5-Series, 150 for the Merc E-Class and 127 for the Audi A6), but expect the usual resurgence in June.

If Tesla didn't impressed in the general ranking, the BMW i8 (Eight units, best performance in 15 months) did just that, selling as much in April as its BMW 6-Series brethren (All body types included), the VW Scirocco or the Jaguar F-Type...Of course, reaching Porsche 911 (84 units) is still off-limits for the BMW sports car, but within the six-figure sports cars niche, the Bimmer is actually very well placed, with only the aforementioned 911 outselling it.

Looking at the rest of the competition, there weren't that many changes, with the main news being the three positions jump of the Renault Twizy, from #16 to #13, a sign that Spring and warmer weather is upon us.

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is #1 (22% Share, up 1%), with Tesla (14%) losing the Second Place to Volkswagen (16%).

Austria March 2016

Records Edition

A record 636 new EV's were registered in Austria last month, sales were up 113% YoY, with 1.240 units sold this year, last year record of 2.091 sales is set to fall around June(!), consequently the EV Share is also in all-time highs, at 1.58%.

Looking at the monthly models ranking, the previous monthly record (88 units, set by the Zoe in June '13) was beaten, not by just one, but by three models, the Nissan Leaf (100 units), Tesla Model S (127) and Renault Zoe (143) all beating the previous record, while at the same time being the first to enter the three digit area.

Tesla's result allowed it also to overcome in March the Mercedes E-Class (101), only losing out to the Audi A6 (168) and BMW 5-Series (153 units) for the Best Seller status. Another market where Tesla is overcoming the established ICE players...

Looking at the YTD chart, the Tesla Model S climbed to the Second position, dropping the BMW i3 to Third, while the Nissan Leaf jumped three positions to Fourth Place.

Strong showing from the VW e-Golf, which had its best result ever, with 68 registrations.

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is still at #1 (21% Share), but has lost 2% share, with Tesla rising to #2 and Volkswagen only three units behind (196 vs 193).

Austria February 2016

The two times ('13 & '14) Austria Best Selling EV is back to the top

Renault Zoe Back At #1

226 new EV's were registered in Austria last month, with sales up an amazing 150% YoY, with 499 units sold this year, last year record of 2.091 sales is set to fall even before Autumn sets in, consequently the EV Share also in all-time highs, being for the first time above the 1% barrier (1.07%).

Looking at the models ranking, we have a surprise in First Place, with the Renault Zoe returning to the most desired place in the ranking after a long absence, followed by its posh arch-rival, the BMW i3 and relegating the title bearer Tesla Model S to Third Place.

Looking elsewhere, strong showings from the Mercedes B250e, with 24 units, its personal best, also from the Kia Soul EV (34 units) and the VW e-Golf(!), which had its best result in over a year.

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is back at #1 (23% Share), with BMW in Second (15%) and Tesla in the last place of the podium, with 14% share.

Austria December 2015 (Updated)

Tesla Wins Austria

217 new EV's were registered in Austria last month, up 23% regarding the same month last year.

Looking at the models ranking, the Tesla Model S is the new undisputed king of the EV ranking, with 18% share and 492 units, 23% above the previous record set last year by the Renault Zoe (387 sales).

But what about Tesla's real competition? All of them are still high above the Californian, with the Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series in the four-digit area and the Merc E-Class with double the sales. A lot of room to grown here...

Looking at the remaining front runner seats, this year the Renault Zoe was beaten by the BMW i3 Arch-Rival, which ended in Second.

In the manufacturers ranking, Tesla won its first title (18% Share), with last year winner, Renault, dropping to Third Place (13%), surpassed by Volkswagen, with 14% Share

Looking into 2016, the growth will continue on a moderate pace, losing ground to neighboring countries (Switzerland...), if the 4.000 units are achieved by 31st December, 2016, it will be considered a good year.
