Denmark December 2015

Tesla in Ludicrous Mode

Last month, Tesla scored a historic 1.248 units!

Although comprehensible, considering the upcoming fiscal changes, it nonetheless impresses by the sheer volume in a small auto market like this one, probably setting a monthly record that will last for several years. Oh, and of course, this performance allowed the Model S to be the best selling car is Denmark in December, a first for an electric car and something that we won't see repeated in the next couple of years...

The total number for 2015 in the Danish EV market stands at 4.762 units, up an amazing 190%, with the EV Share shooting to 2,29%, more than doubling last year result of 0.88%.

But this sales-fever will have its flip side in 2016, with a massive sales hangover and symbolic numbers in the first months of the year.

In other news...The rest of the ranking kept their positions in December, with the exception of the Kia Soul EV, up to #12, thanks to a record...6 sales.

Speaking of records, a couple more models increased their personal bests last month, like the Renault Twizy (9 units), Mercedes B-Class ED (16) and VW e-Golf (17).

Regarding the manufacturers ranking, Tesla ended miles away from everyone else, with 57% share, while last year winner, Nissan, ended in Second, with 15% share, followed by BMW (14%), in Third.

In the BEV / PHEV breakdown, PHEV's are a small minority here, with only 3% share, but last year they had only 1%...Expect a revolution in this regard this year, as BEV's wont have the fiscal advantages they had before.

A final mention to Fuel Cell Vehicle sales, this is becoming one of the most important markets for this technology, with 13 units sold in December, 11 of them being Hyundai's, while the remaining 2 were Toyota Mirai. All in all, 30 FCEV's were registered in 2015, with 25 being Hyundai and 5 Toyota, as for market share for Fuel Cells, we are at 0.01%...

Looking into 2016, basically it's Year Zero all over again, the fiscal changes will push back sales in a big way, while also blurring lines for the Best Seller trophies. My guess will be that PHEV's will jump to the first spots, with the Mitsu Outlander PHEV as a strong candidate to #1, followed closely by a group of German plug-in hybrid models. As for total numbers, i would go with some 1.5k units by the end of 2016.

Denmark November 2015

All Mighty Tesla - 2nd Chapter

Just when you thought BMW had secured last August a record that would last for years, Tesla scores in November a mammoth result of 525 units!

This amazing result, although comprehensible, considering the upcoming fiscal changes, nonetheless impresses by the sheer numbers in a small auto market like this one, placing the Californian on the Top 5 of the general ranking, and contributing decisively (81% of sales) to a new sales record in the Danish EV market, with 648 units, with the EV Share surging to 1,64%, almost doubling last year result of 0.88%.

As a side note, there were just 526 EV's registered in the whole of 2013...Expect Tesla to post another extraterrestrial result in December, and then...Early 2016 will be the hangover, a bit like the Netherlands in early 2014.

Regarding the manufacturers ranking, Tesla if far ahead everyone else, with 48% share (Up 9%), followed by BMW (18%, down 3%) and Nissan (16%, down 4% and waiting for the 30kWh version).

A final mention to Fuel Cell Vehicle sales, there was one new Toyota Mirai registered its third unit, making it 17 Fuel Cells in total sold this year.

News Flash - 08/12/15

Denmark

- Tesla Sells 465 units in November!

- #4 in the Danish General Ranking...

Denmark October 2015

All Mighty Tesla

With 221 units sold, the Danish EV market grew 46% regarding the same month last year, with the EV Share dropping just a tad to 1,43%, still a significant departure from the 0.88% of last year.

The super-hot Tesla Model S continues in the three digit sales area (113 new Model S), in an unprecedented streak of five times in a row, a performance that has put other EV's far behind, but also Tesla ICE competitors to shame (The Audi A6 sold 82 units last month, the Merc E-Class sold 80 and the BMW 5-Series, only 14...) and the american car is already leading the YTD ranking in their class (959 units for the Model S, vs 876 for the A6, 530 for the E-Class and 280 for the 5-Series)...It seems the Bimmer is feeling the pinch harder than the other two.

Looking elsewhere, there are other facts to mention:

- The Renault Zoe is experiencing a brilliant recovery (67 units in October, 89 in September), but it might be too late to reach the Third Place, for now in the hands of the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins;

- The Nissan Leaf didn't registered any unit last month, the first time this happens in three years! It looks Danish consumers are all waiting for the 30KWh version...

- There was a (small) surge in the VW e-Golf sales, registering 11 units, its best month ever, and probably due to the dieselgate scandal, with some buyers shifting from diesel to electric.

Regarding the manufacturers ranking, Tesla if far ahead everyone else, with 39% share (Up 1%), followed by BMW (21%, down 2%) and Nissan (20%, down 1%).

A final mention to Fuel Cell Vehicle sales, there was one new Hyundai ix35 FCEV registered last month, making it 14 YTD, while the Toyota Mirai registered its second unit, making a grand total of 16 FCEV's sold this year.

Renault Zoe Goes Ultrasonic

With 243 units sold, the Danish EV market doubled sales regarding the same month last year, with the EV Share jumping to 1,44%, a significant departure from the 0.88% of last year, with the YTD sales now at 2.237 units, it's more than the number of EVs sold in the two previous years...Together!

After the BMW i3 in August, this time it was the Renault Zoe's turn to impress, selling 89 units, a new personal best, allowing it to rise to #4 YTD and end the month as the Second Best Selling model, only behind the melting-hot Tesla Model S, which has achieved another three digit sales number (121 new Teslas), the fourth in a row, a performance that not only has surpassed its direct competitors, but has put them to shame (The Audi A6 sold 84 units last month, the Merc E-Class, 55 units and the BMW 5-Series, only 23...).

Looking elsewhere, not much else is happening, the VW e-Golf surpassed its e-Up! little brother and it's now alone in #6, while the Merc B-Class ED is failing to confirm the good indications left late last year, it now only #11, with...11 units.

Regarding the manufacturers ranking, Tesla if far ahead everyone else, with 38% share, followed by BMW (23%) and Nissan (21%).

A final mention to Fuel Cell Vehicle sales, besides the three new Hyundai ix35 FCEV registered last month, making it 13 YTD, we must mention the landing of the first Toyota Mirai in Denmark, ready to terrorize whoever comes by...

Denmark August 2015

BMW i3 Goes Interstellar

Just when you thought Tesla had the Denmark EV Market covered, that's when BMW goes ballistic and registers 407 i3's!

Putting those numbers in context, that's 74% of all EV's registered last month, obliterating the previous monthly record for a single model (180 units, made by the Tesla Model S last March), with the Bavarian angry puppy car shooting for Eighth Place in the general Danish auto ranking (The first time a plug-in reaches a Top 20 position) and #4 in the B-Segment/subcompact market, propelling the EV Market as whole to a new record (549 units, beating the 483 sold last March) and a record 3.3% Share in August. What happened here? A certain carsharing fleet deal in Copenhagen must have much to do with this...

In other news...There's only the fact that the Model S surpassed the Audi A6 in YTD sales and became the best selling car in its segment, ahead of the BMW 5-Series, Merc E-Class and the aforementioned A6.

The rest of the competition continued in holidays, selling in small numbers, with no significant performances or position changes.

Oh, and by the way, BMW i3 jumped to Second Place and is the only model close to give Tesla a fight for the leadership.

Du sexede ting!

Tesla Superstar

Tesla continues to steal the show in Denmark, with the 103 units sold representing 75% of all EV's registered last month, with the Californian Star once again dominating the E-Segment/full-size market (41 units ahead of the #2 Audi A6), if in YTD sales the same Audi is still the leader, the Model S is only 12 units behind...Will we see it #1 in August?

In other news, the 138 units represent a 65% increase YoY, with the EV Share steady at 1.19%, comfortably ahead of the 0,88% of last year.

The rest of the competition took the time to have an holiday break, all of them sold in single numbers, with no significant performances or position changes.

Denmark June 2015

Pedal to the Metal

The big news was that from the 265 units registered last month, 60% of them were Teslas(!), with the american car already sending shock waves in the (Small) Premium sector of the Danish Auto market, not only the 160 units were enough to make it the Best Selling car of its class (42 units ahead of the Audi A6), but in YTD sales it is only behind the same Audi, and it's not that far away, being only 54 units behind...The German Premiums must be taking notes by now...

Looking at the models ranking, the Tesla Model S made a smashing return to the leadership, changing positions with the surprisingly slow selling Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia, which registered only 8 vans, all of the commercial variety.

The Nissan Leaf continues in #3, but  the BMW i3 (Only 2 BEV vs 16 Rex) and Renault Zoe took the chance to get a little bit closer, with the french car returning its best result of the year (29 units) and reaching the german  to a tie in #4.

The current Rookie Of The Year, Mercedes C350e, continues to impress, rising to #8 and surpassing the Outlander PHEV in the Best Selling PHEV competition.

Speaking of PHEV's, this is one of the strongholds of pure electric cars, with 97% of the market, but even here plug-in hybrids are starting to make a dent, if the 3% share they currently own sounds small, it is still a significant increase from the 2% of last year and 1% in 2013...

Denmark May 2015

All hail the new leader

The Beauty and the Beast III

211 units were registered last month, the second best result of the year, with the EV Share stable at 1.24%.

Looking at the models ranking, there was a leadership change, the Tesla Model S was down to #2, changing positions with the surprising Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia, news leaders in the YTD ranking by just one unit(!) (344 vs 343 units), this is the first time that the japanese twins reach the #1 spot anywhere in the world, will they remain in the leadership next month?

June is usually a strong month for Tesla, so i doubt it, but you never know...

The Nissan Leaf continues in #3, but sales were only 2 units last month (Feeling the heat from the Evalia?), and the BMW i3 and Renault Zoe took the chance to get a little bit closer.

Finally, the VW e-Golf returned to #6, surpassing the e-Up! relative, while the Mercedes C350e has landed with a bang, establishing itself right away like a serious candidate for the PHEV Best Seller of the Year.
