Nissan Leaf rules in Estonia

Only 120 new Plug-ins were registered in the first months of 2018, which nevertheless means a 140% jump in sales regarding the previous year, pulling the current market share to 0.5%, the market best year since 2014, although it is still a far cry from the 2.6% record year of 2012, when Estonia was seen like a sort of "Little Norway".

Speaking of Norway, a common trace between both markets is the popularity of the Nissan Leaf, with the Japanese hatchback on its way to win its fifth sixth consecutive(!) Best Seller award, by selling 60 units this year, or half of the local PEV market.

In Second we have the surprising Hyundai Ioniq Electric, that with 14 units, is headed to provide Hyundai its first medal here.

Also on its way to win a medal for the first time, we have the Third Placed Porsche Panamera PHEV, although the Sports Sedan could still lose the podium position to its Cayenne PHEV sibling, or the Hyundai Ioniq PHEV, both just three units aways.

In the manufacturers ranking, Nissan (53%) is head and shoulders ahead of Hyundai (21%), soon winning it's sixth manufacturers title, while Tesla (7%) holds the last place of the podium.

Estonia December 2017

Another win for the Nissan Leaf in depressed market

Only 52 new Plug-ins were registered here, a 7% drop regarding the previous year, that dragged the market share to just 0.2%, a far cry from the 2.6% record year of 2012.

In the midst of these low results (No incentives?), the Nissan Leaf won its fifth consecutive Best Seller award, by selling 10 units in 2017.

Second was the surprise of the year, the Toyota Prius PHEV, that with 6 deliveries until now, had its best year ever in Estonia.

In the manufacturers ranking, Nissan (21%) narrowly overcame Tesla (20%), winning it's fifth manufacturers title, while Toyota, Volkswagen and BMW, all with 12% share, ended tied in the last place.

In the midst of these low results (No incentives?), the Nissan Leaf is headed for the fifth consecutive Best Seller award, selling 10 units through August, with 22% share.

Second is the surprise of the year, the Toyota Prius PHEV, that with 5 deliveries until now, it is experiencing its best year ever in Estonia.

Estonia June 2016

Leaf Repeats Leadership in Roller Coaster Market

Thanks to the 21 units registered in June (Best result in 18 months) the total of 50 EV's sold in the first half of 2016, represent only five units less than in the whole of 2015, but nevertheless it is still down 56% over the first half of 2014.

This EV market has an uncharacteristic Boom-Bust behavior, possible to see in the EV Share over the years:

2011 - 0.3%
2012 - 2.4%
2013 - 0.7%
2014 - 1.7%
2015 - 0.3%
2016 - 0.5%

In the midst of these abnormal results (Incentives related?), the Nissan Leaf is headed for the fourth consecutive Best Seller award, selling 30 units through June, with an amazing 60% share.

Second is the Tesla Model S, that with 10 units until now, it is experiencing its best year ever in Estonia, having delivered as much units this year as in the whole of 2015.

In a global European market heading for PHEV's, it is nice to see Estonia going in the opposite direction, with plug-in hybrids now accounting for only 4% of the market, when last year they had 25%.

Estonia December 2015

Leaf Repeats Title in Crumbling Market

Only 55 electric cars were sold in 2015, down from 350 in 2014, placing the EV Share at a disappointing 0.27%.

This EV market has an uncharacteristic Boom-Bust behavior, possible to see in the EV Share over the years:

2011 - 0.3%
2012 - 2.4%
2013 - 0.7%
2014 - 1.7%
2015 - 0.3%

In the midst of this abnormality (Incentives related?), the Nissan Leaf won for the third consecutive time the Best Seller award, despite selling only 12 units, its worst performance ever.

Second was the Tesla Model S, up one position regarding last year, despite delivering only a third of the vehicles (10 now vs 30 in '14).

The Volkswagen e-Golf replaced the e-Up! relative in the Podium, ending the year in Third, with only five units.

In a shrinking market, one major trend was the rise of plug-in hybrids from insignificance to 25% share, representing almost half of the models available.

The Volkswagen e-Up! got a surprising Second Spot

Tesla Wins December

Only 20 electric cars were sold last month, placing the EV Share at a still bright 1.57%.

For the first time since August '13, it wasn't the Nissan Leaf to win the monthly title, profitting from a poor performance from Nissan's hatch (Only 5 units sold), the Tesla Model S won its first trophy in Estonia, while at the same time beating its personal best (6 units).

In the YTD ranking, the Nissan Leaf won for the second consecutive time the Best Seller Trophy, doubling sales regarding last year, while the VW e-Up won the Silver medal in its first year on the market, followed closely by the Model S. A final mention for the #5 place of the Nissan e-NV200, it looks that japanese LCV will be a strong contender in this 2015.

Estonia July 2014

Back To The Golden Days?

38 electric cars were sold in Estonia last month, placing the EV Share now at 1.15%, July was the best selling month since the glory days of 2012, when the EV Share was well above 2%. Could this mean that the Estonian EV market is going back to those Golden Days?

The Nissan Leaf is of course leading the market head and shoulders, with 24 registrations (A new personal best) last month, followed at a distance by the Renault Zoe and Tesla Model S, both with 5 sales in July.

Those 5 units were enough for Model S to reach the Second Place in the YTD ranking, passing the I-Miev.

We welcome a new model, the Nissan e-NV200 sold its first 3 units in Estonia and it's looking to replicate the success of the Leaf, will we see a 1-2 leadership for Nissan later in the year?
