Romania August 2019

Nissan Leaf Shines in record month

The Romanian PEV market is on fire, with August hitting a new record(!), with 270 units being registered, with the 1.2% share of last month representing a new record, allowing the 2019 share to jump to 1%.

As you might have noticed, all 10 models from this ranking are BEVs, a consequence of BEVs representing 91% of all plugin sales, making this one of the most BEV-firendly markets anywhere.

The Renault Zoe is leading the way, ahead of the Nissan Leaf and the BMW i3, with these last two scoring record performances in August, so the French hatchback could be overthrown in the coming months by its Japanese relative.

Volkswagen is gaining ground, thanks to the rising VW e-Golf, that hit a record 32 deliveries last month, while the Jaguar i-Pace joined the Top 10, making this a 100% Top 10.

In the manufacturers ranking, Renault is ahead, with 22% share, closely followed by Nissan (21%) and Volkswagen (15%).

Romania August 2018

Resultado de imagem para 2018 Nissan Leaf Romania

Nissan Leaf Shines, but BMW i3 is still #1

The Romanian PEV market has cooled down a bit, with the current 466 Plug-ins registered so far this year representing only a 221% jump regarding last year. With four months to go, this year market has already beaten last year record of 374 registrations.

Because of this sales slowdown regarding the Q1 2018, the PEV Share dropped from a record 0.8% then, to the current 0.5%, which is still better than the 0.3% of last year.

Last year Best Seller BMW i3 (108 units, already more than the 71 recorded in 2017) is once again in the lead, in its bid to win a third consecutive Best Seller title, but this time it seems that the 2017 runner-up, the Renault Zoe (87 units, doubling the sales of last year), is giving some fight, with both far ahead of the Third Placed Smart Fortwo ED (38 units).

In fact, Smart is betting heavily in Romania, as its other model, the ForFour is...Fourth.

But a new model that might soon stir things in the top positions is the new Nissan Leaf, that registered 15 units last month (Personal best), jumping to #7, and becoming August Best Seller.

Should this performance repeat in the coming months, and the Japanese hatchback could be eligible for the Bronze Medal, something that might depend more on the product allocation of Nissan Europe than anything else, as demand should be more than enough to reach the Third Spot.

In a BEV-friendly market, where the top four best selling models are BEVs, all electric models are increasing (+3%) their share regarding PHEVs (66% vs 34%), while the best selling PHEVs is only #5.

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW is headed for a third consecutive title, having a large 36% share of the market, while Renault and Smart are running for #2, with the first having 19% share and the seconfd 16%, while Volvo is a distant Fourth Placed, with 8% share.

BMW i3 Shines in Red Hot Market

The PEV market is boiling hot in Romania, with the current 228 Plug-ins registered so far this year representing a nine-fold(!) jump regarding last year, with this market selling in just three months what it hadn't in the first nine months of 2017...

Because of this exponential growth, the PEV Share jumped to a record 0.8%, and it's not even higher, because the mainstream market is also growing fast (+28%).

Last year Best Seller BMW i3 started once again in the lead, in its bid to win a third consecutive Best Seller title, but this time it seems that the 2017 runner-up, the Renault Zoe, is running closer, having registered already 43 units, not far from the 49 delivered last year.

Smart is betting heavily in Romania, with its two models in Third and Fourth respectively, the brands best positioning anywhere.

In a market strongly where the top four best selling models are BEVs, all electric models are outselling PHEVs (63% vs 37%), while the best selling PHEVs are only #5, with 12 units.

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW is headed for a third consecutive title, having a large 37% share of the market, while Smart and Renault are running for #2, with both having 19% share and 43 units, while Volvo is a distant Fourth Placed, with 7% share.

Romania December 2017

Image result for BMW i3 in romania

BMW i3 wins #1

The PEV market in Romania had a great year in 2017, with 374 registrations, up 131% regarding 2016. True, the starting base is small, but growth is always good, right?

With the PEV Share ending 2017 at a record 0.4%, plug-ins in Romania are starting to move the needle, will we see it move more rapidly next year? Let's say...1%?

If last year BMW and Mercedes were the big players, with both counting 69% of 2016 sales, things were more even this year, but the Best Seller award still went to the BMW i3, with the German Hot Hatch repeating the 2016 title, with 71 units, a new record.

The Renault Zoe and VW e-Golf made up for the rest of the podium, with both models making 2017 their real landing year in Romania.

Looking elsewhere, BEVs became the majority in the Top 10, besides the aforementioned podium models, the discontinued #5 Mercedes B250e, the #7 Kia Soul EV and the #10 Mitsubishi i-MIEV(!?!) joined the 2017 Top 10, a trend confimed by the fact that BEVs grew 236% (vs +53% for PHEVs) regarding 2016 and represent 62% of all PEV sales, a stark contrast to 2016, when all-electrics only had 43% share.

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW (31%) won its second makers trophy, adding to the 2016 title, with Mercedes winning Silver, but the three-pointed-star has been losing significant ground, losing 2% share, to 16%, with Volkswagen (14%) earning the Third Place in the ranking.

Romania November 2017

Image result for BMW i3 in romania

BMW i3 Shines

If the overall automotive market in Romania had a bad month (-3.5%), the local PEV market is hot as ever, with November signaling 49 registrations, up four fold, pulling the 2017 sales to 321 units, up 168% YoY. True, the starting base is small, but growth is always good, right?

With the PEV Share at a record 0.33%, plug-ins in Romania are starting to move the needle, will we see it move in a more significant way next year? Say...1%?

If last year BMW and Mercedes were the big players, with both counting 69% of last year sales, things are more even this year, but the leadership still belongs to the BMW i3, with the German Hot Hatch shining in November, thanks to 14 deliveries.

The VW e-Golf and Renault Zoe make up for the rest of the podium, but they have half the sale of the leader i3.

In a market that was strongly driven by SUV's until recently, where five of the Top 10 belonged to that category, it is interesting to see them receding, to the profit of BEVs, that now make up 6 of the Top 10 places, a trend confimed by the fact that BEVs are growing 371% YoY and represent 60% of all PEV sales, a stark contrast to 2016, when plug-in hybrids trounced all-electrics by 93 units to 69.

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW is in the lead, with 32% share, while Mercedes has been losing significant ground, now with just 18%, to the profit of the Third Placed Volkswagen, now with 15%.
