Spain June 2017

Image result for renault Zoe in Spain

Record Month

With the Movea incentives scheme back online, the EV market in Spain is boiling hot, with plug-ins being sold like Churros, as the 688 registrations last month prove, numbers are up an impressive 164% YoY, pulling the PEV share to 0.4%.

The Nissan Leaf continues to beat the odds, winning June's Best Seller award, thanks to 68 deliveries (Up 51% YoY), beating the Renault Zoe (66 units) and the fleet-friendly Citroen C-Zero (51).

The main change on the YTD ranking was the Renault Zoe recovering the leadership, with the Volvo XC90 PHEV climbing to #10, tied with the Tesla Model X, that with 29 deliveries, had its best month ever in Spanish lands.

The official arrival in Spain is doing wonders to Tesla, besides the aforementioned Model X, the Model S also had 27 registrations, contributing for the best month ever for the Californian automaker.

But it wasn't only Tesla bearing brilliant results, as the Audi A3 e-Tron (42 units) and VW e-Golf (14) also broke their personal records, while a number of newcomers showed impressive results: The Mini Countryman PHEV was #4 in June, with 50 deliveries, the Porsche Panamera PHEV was #6(!) last month, with 43 deliveries, while the Hyundai Ioniq PHEV (16 units) and the Second Generation Smart Fortwo ED (16) posted significant results in their first month on the market.

On the manufacturers ranking, the market is becoming ever more fragmented, with the leading brands losing share, like is the case of the leader BMW (23%, down 4%) or the Second Placed Renault (14%, down 1%), while in Third Place, Nissan (11%) is profiting from the Second Third Youth of its Leaf.

Spain May 2017

Image result for bmw i3 in spain
The i3 is running away from the competition

BMW i3 new Leader

The EV market in Spain registered 456 sales last month, up 27% YoY, an impressive feat considering that the 2017 incentives are still far in the horizon.

YTD sales are also in great shape (+51%), with the EV Share at 0.33%, so expect record sales levels once incentives do come back.

This time we have a new Best Seller to celebrate, both in May as in the YTD ranking, with the BMW i3 now in the lead, thanks to 75 registrations in May, which comes after a record performance in April, with 79 units.

Great performance in May for the VW Golf GTE, scoring 47 units, a new record for the German hot hatch, allowing it to jump to #8, in what can only be considered a great month for VW, as the Passat GTE delivered 21 units, its best result in 14 months, while the all-electric e-Golf delivered nine units, its best result to date.

It seems the official arrival to Spain is doing wonders to Tesla, with the Model X delivering a record 13 units, allowing it to climb to #14.

On the manufacturers ranking, there were significant changes regarding the last post, as Second Placed Renault (15%, down 6%) lost more ground to the leader BMW (27%, up 4%), while in Third Place Nissan (12%, down 2%) is seeing Mitsubishi (10%) and Volkswagen (9%) come closer.

Spain March 2017

Image result for Renault Zoe in Spain

Renault Zoe & Nissan Leaf  March winners

The EV market in Spain registered 466 sales last month, up 9% YoY, an impressive feat considering that the 2017 incentives are still to be implemented...

YTD sales are also in the black (+25%), with the EV Share in record levels, close to 0.4%, it seems customers just got tired of waiting for the 2017 edition of the MOVEA incentives and just bought their EV's without any help.

This time we have two Best Sellers Of The Month instead of one, with the Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf both scoring 89 units, if the French hatchback performance was expected, as it is benefiting from the ZE 40 bonus, the Japanese model is something of a surprise, scoring its best result in 12 months, when it made 90 registrations.

In the YTD ranking, the Outlander PHEV dropped two positions to Fourth, surpassed by the Nissan Leaf and the BMW i3, which scored a record 69 units (Only 27 were Rex).

Another BMW is rising in the ranking, with the 225xe Active Tourer reaching #5, with a record 24 registrations last month.

It seems the official arrival to Spain is doing wonders to Tesla, with the Model S delivering a record 33 units, which together with the 5 Model X also registered last month, was the best month ever for Tesla in this market, it seems the American manufacturer is finally taking off and the country is still having their Superchargers network installed...

On the manufacturers ranking, Renault (21%, down 5%) lost the leadershipto BMW (23%, up 5%), while and Nissan (14%) is now Third.

Spain February 2017

Image result for Renault Zoe in Spain

Renault Zoe in #1

The EV market in Spain registered over 250 sales last month, up 44% YoY, with YTD sales also in the black (+20%), with the EV Share at 0.25%, it seems customers got tired of waiting for the 2017 edition of the MOVEA incentives and just bought their EV's without any help.

The Best Seller Of The Month was the Renault Zoe, with 67 units, no doubt benefiting from the ZE 40 bonus, while the Second Placed in February was the Citröen C-Zero (40 sales), once again climbing to the top spots thanks to car-sharing fleet deals.

In the YTD ranking, the Renault Zoe won an early advance over the 2016 Best Seller Outlander PHEV (19 units), which might prove important further along the race for the leadership.

The BMW i3 is Third, only one unit behind the Japanese SUV, considering the current hotness of the German Hatchback, Mitsubishi could see its plug-in model drop to Third soon. The Nissan Leaf and Citröen C-Zero round up the Top 5 and make four BEV's in the top places.

Another BMW is shining in the ranking, with the 225xe Active Tourer reaching #6, six positions above its 2016 final standing.

Final mention for the 14 Tesla Model S deliveries, which together with the 9 Model S registered last month, was the best month ever for Tesla in this market, expect the American manufacturer to finally take off this year in Spain.

On the manufacturers ranking, Renault is in the leadership (26%), followed by BMW (18%) in Second and Mitsubishi (12%) in Third.

Spain December 2016

Image result for 2016 Outlander PHEV in Spain

Outlander PHEV Holds the Fort and Wins Spanish Title

The EV market in Spain registered 530 sales last month, the third best result ever, up 42% YoY, with the 2016 sales ending at a record 4.603 units, 53% above the previous year, with the EV Share at a record 0.4%, a small but important step above the 0.3% of last year, with the new MOVEA incentives scheme starting this year, expect sales to continue growing in 2017.

The Best Seller in December was the surprising Citröen C-Zero, with 168 units, that thanks to a car-sharing fleet deal, delivered 468 units in the last two months of the year, shooting for Third Place in 2016, with 496 units, shattering the model previous record, set in the distant year of 2011, when the Sino-French had registered 85 units, allowing then its first (And only) podium seat until 2016.

This deal underlines the local importance of car-sharing fleets and LCV's, as there are two LCV's (Kangoo ZE and Nissan e-NV200) and two car-sharing champs (Smart Fortwo ED and the aforementioned Citröen C-Zero) within the 2016 Top 10, something unparalleled in the World.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV resisted to the Nissan Leaf in December and won its second consecutive Best Seller title, with 555 units, 43% above last year result, but still far from the all-time record achieved by the Renault Twizy in 2012, with 943 units.

Looking elsewhere, the LCV race between the Renault Kangoo ZE and the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia was as little bit as exciting as in previous years, with the French van repeating the 2015 win (329 units, a new record), but with the Japanese once again not far behind (308 units).

A special mention for the 22 Tesla Model S deliveries, not only a new monthly record for the American sports-sedan, but the 46 units registered in 2016 shattered the previous record of 15 deliveries in 2014, meaning that 2017 will definitely be Year One for Tesla in Spain, with Superchargers spreading and Stores finally appearing, expect the California-based company to surge this year.

In a relatively stable market regarding models, the Rookie of the Year was the Volvo XC90 T8, #9 with 128 units, succeeding the Audi A3 e-Tron, also #9 in 2015, but with 102 units. The Swede was also the Best Selling Luxury SUV, just ahead of the BMW X5 PHEV.

Looking at the BEV/PHEV breakdown, plug-in hybrids continue to gain ground, growing from 25% share in 2015 to 33% this year.

On the manufacturers ranking, Renault (19%) pulled out a last minute win, surpassing Nissan by just 37 units (890 vs 853), thus earning its fifth consecutive Manufacturers title, earning every trophy since 2012.

BMW ended in Third Place, with 14% share, its best score ever.

Spain October 2016

Vans Edition

The EV market in Spain registered 333 sales, down 39% YoY, and although YTD sales are up, with the EV Share at 0.36%, the fact is that the local market is cooling off as of lately, with buyers waiting for the new MOVEA incentives scheme to start, next January.

The Best Seller Of The Month was the Nissan Leaf, with 58 units, of which 20 of them were 2-seat Commercial Vans, delivered to the Seur company.

This deal underlines the local importance of LCV's, also known as Vans, last month the Top 3 was heavily influenced by this this particular type of EV, with 35% of the #1 Leaf deliveries being 2-seater Vans, the Second Placed Renault Zoe also relying heavily on the LCV version (40%, or 23 units were 2-seaters), while the Third Placed Renault Kangoo ZE had 47 deliveries (Year best), all 100% Vans. In fact, 36% of all EV registrations last month were Vans...

In the YTD ranking, the Nissan Leaf took advantage of a weak month of the Outlander PHEV (17 units, worst result of the year), to reach closer at #1, with 18 units separating both, anything can happen in the race for the leadership.

The BMW i3 dropped two positions to #5, with the beneficiaries being the Renault Zoe, now #3, and the Renault Kangoo ZE, Fourth.

Another BMW dropping in the ranking, was the 225xe Act. Tourer, dropping to #13, to the benefit of yet another Renault, this time being the Twizy.

Final mention for the 5 Tesla Model X deliveries, which together with the 3 Model S registered last month was the best month ever for Tesla in Spain, with official Tesla presence in Spain soon to be a reality, expect the American manufacturer to finally take off.

On the manufacturers ranking, Nissan is in the leadership (21%), but Renault (20%, up 1%) is closing in and the Third Placed BMW (16%, down 1%) is dangerously close.

Spain September 2016

Cooling Market?

EV Sales stumbled into red last month in Spain, with 334 sales, down 13% YoY, and although YTD sales are still up a sensational 79% YoY,  with the EV Share at 0.36%, one wonders if this one of the first signs that the local EV market is beginning to cool off.

The Best Seller Of The Month was the leader Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with 58 units, earning its first monthly trophy in four months, while at the same time its lead to 60 units over the #2 Nissan Leaf.

In the remaining YTD ranking, the last place in the podium changed hands, with the BMW i3 displacing the Renault Zoe to #4, while another two BMW's had a good month, the X5 PHEV climbed to #8, removing the Volvo XC90 PHEV from the Luxury SUV leadership, and the 225xe Act. Tourer had a record month, with 18 units and shooting to #12.

Final reference to the 20 Tesla Model S registered this year, double of what it did in 2015, expect deliveries to grow significantly in the near future, as Tesla is finally set to arrive oficially this year in Spain.

On the manufacturers ranking, Nissan is in the leadership (21%), but Renault (19%, up 1%) is closing in and the new Third Placed BMW (17%) is relying on its strong lineup to reach the top.
