A significant score was made by the Renault Zoe, with 29 units,  its best result this year.

In the manufacturers ranking, Nissan (19%, down 2%) stayed a float,  with Mercedes in Third (17%), and Mitsubishi (18%, up 1%) is a close Second.

As one can see, a lot has happened since this last overview, BEV's are losing share (-4%) on a global level, but it could have been worse, as it had the help of China, the largest EV market, where BEV's recovered ground (+4% share), but there were another two markets where all electric vehicles recovered significantly, with  BEV's recovering 6% share in Japan and 23%(!) in the Netherlands, although, in this last case, fiscal incentives had a lot to do with it.

But the overall trend is PHEV's conquering share, and the more blatant cases are Belgium, the new halo market for PHEV's, where plug-in hybrids won 18% share, and Sweden, Norway & Canada, where PHEV's did even better, conquering 23% share in just 11 months...

Even France, a BEV stronghold, plug-in hybrids won share, going from 16% to 18% share.

France May 2016

Still Rising
 PHEV's slowing down

The French EV market had more than 2.600 registrations in May, representing a 44% increase over May 2015, with the market set to surpass the 45.000 units by year end.

The EV Share is at 1,74%, a significant departure from the 1,41% of 2015.

France is known for being a stable market, with little changes in the ranking, and May confirmed that, one has to go down to the Ninth Place to see a position change, with the Kia Soul EV rising one position to #9, with the Citröen e-Mehari doing the same in #14, but the VW e-Up! (45 units, best result in 2 years), did even better, jumping three positions to #26. May saw plug-in hybrids lose share to BEV’s, now that buyers have less fiscal incentives to buy PHEV’s. Money makes the world go round…

Looking at the brands ranking, the Ruling Force of Renault (#1 since 2011) continues to be the Master In Command, with 43%, followed at a distance by Nissan (15%) and BMW (9%).

Switzerland May 2016

If the S is shaking the Swiss market, then imagine what the X will do...

Tesla Edition

The Swiss EV market registered more than 350 units last month, down 40% YoY, with the EV Share also down to 1.75%.

Looking at the models ranking, the leader Tesla Model S had an off month, selling only 59 units, down 16% YoY, dropping one position to Third Place in its size class, ahead of the Audi A6 (582 units) and behind the Mercedes E-Class (605), and the leader BMW 5-Series (714 units).

Of course, June will see the Model S deliveries jump to a 200-something performance and recover the runner-up place, it is as certain as snow falling next winter in the Valais Swiss Canton...

The Nissan Leaf dropped two positions to #7, registering only 11 units, it seems that the boost from the 30kWh version has faded, is the Japanese hatch condemned to a downward trend for the rest of 2016?

In the manufacturers ranking, Tesla is comfortably ahead, with 27% share, down 2%, followed by Volkswagen and Audi, both tied with 13% share.
