China February 2015

The BAIC E-Series

Unbreakable Qin Edition

With the New Year festivities going around, it was expected that the Chinese EV market didn't had a memorable month, and so it was, with sales falling some 1.000 units regarding the previous month to 4.800 units, which is still a whole lot more than the 2.200 registrations made a year ago, so the market continues on a record pace and we should witness the last year record of 60.000 units to be beaten still in the first half of this year!

Looking at the models ranking, while most models suffered with the holiday season, the #1 BYD Qin just keeps on going in its never-ending record spree (New record, now at 1.932 units), while everyone else is far below, with the #2 in February (BAIC e-Series), only selling 387 units.

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, BYD has got it covered, #1 with 44% Share, well ahead of the #2 Chery, with 15%, and #3 Zotye, with 11%.

  3. Kandi Technologies does not make cars! That's why they're not on the list.

Listed KNDI actually seems to be a battery re-seller to a single concentrated customer. Read for yourself from KNDI's 10-K form from 3/16/2015:

for the year ended December 31, 2014, approximately 83% or the majority of the sales were related to the sales of battery packs. Due to various Chinese auto industry regulations, we hold the necessary production license to manufacture battery packs to be exclusively used in the EVs manufactured by the JV Company under the Kandi brand. Approximately 6% of the sales were related to the sales of EV controllers. Approximately 5% of the sales were related to the sales of air conditioning units. Approximately 4% of the sales were related to the sales of EV drive motors, and the remaining 2% were related to the sales of body parts and other auto parts.

    1. KNDI sells parts to JV factories (KNDI have 50%) who sold to ZZY. JV owns 19% and 81% is from individual ownership. Dont forget ZZY support all the infrastructure costs. What you said was nonsense.

    1. Just to make an idea on how Tesla is doing there, the number of Teslas imported in February was...10.

They've got a lot of unsold inventory.
