Europe February 2015

R240, the new (And cheaper) Zoe will help spur sales (even) further

Zoe Edition

With some 8.200 units, the European EV market continues to post significant growth rates, sales were up 57% regarding the same month last year, so the 120K target for 2015 might be already small...Let's see how the next months develop.

Looking at the models ranking, the Outlander PHEV continues sovereign, being the only model to reach the four-digit area (1.184 units), while the Renault Zoe is back at good performances (979 sales), winning the Monthly Best-Selling Pure Electric car, ahead of the e-Golf (970 units) and the Nissan Leaf (740 units, worst performance since March '13).  In Fifth we get the BMW i3, a return to form after a poor January.

Looking at the YTD ranking, the headline news is the Golf GTE losing three positions to #5, while its premium cousin, the Audi A3 e-Tron is on the rise, climbing two positions to #9.

But changes didn't stopped there, in the second half of the ranking, the Renault Kangoo ZE recovered some pulse and raised three positions to #13, still far from the #8 won last year, but enough to get away from its closest competitor on the LCV trophy, the #17 Nissan e-NV200.

Looking at the brands ranking, Volkswagen continues firm in the leadership, with 23% share, followed by Mitsubishi (19%), while Renault is recovering ground, it's now Third with 13% share.

  1. Hi. Thanks for all your efforts.
Unfortunately the lack of figures from the UK is starting to create a really, really big hole, as the Mitsubishi PHEV in particular has massive sales.
Mitsubishi reckon that they will have sold 10,000 in the UK by the end of March, making the lead shown above much, much greater.

Somehow I reckon we need something in, even if it is only a guess on UK stats, as it changes the picture completely! :-(

    1. Remember, this is a February report, March is still to come next month, considering that until Feb. the total number of Plug-in Outlanders in the UK was +/- 6.700 units, it would mean that some 3.300 units were sold in March alone, it might seem an impossible number, but remember that Mitsu's SUV already reached the "thousands per month" mark last year, and considering that March is always one of the best selling months in the UK, 3.300 Outlander PHEV registered this month would be surprising, but not impossible.

And now a spoiler alert: There are reports saying that Tesla already sold some 800 Model S in Norway this month.

    2. Here is the press release:

It's 10. March. That means Mitsubishi must have sold 4.630 Outlander PHEV from first Januar until 10. March!

  3. Good work but where is it indicated that UK sales are not part of those figures ?? If correct it should be indicated right on top in CAPITAL letters, otherwise it is very misleading.

    1. Although with estimates, the UK numbers ARE included, 350 units for the Outlander, 150 for the Leaf, 50 for the BMW i3...

February is always a slow selling month in this highly seasonable market.

  5. The entire Mitsubishi brand registered 2.361 units in the UK in Jan-Feb. (Source: SMMT), add that to the +/- 5.4k sold last year and those 10.000 units can only be possible if they include the March deliveries, Mitsu probably counted sales instead of actual deliveries.
