It´s Getting Hot in Here

Some 4.432 plug-in passenger cars were registered last month in Germany, up 87% YoY, with the EV Share rising above 1.2%, significantly above from the 0.75% registered last year, it's been a long time coming, but it seems the German market is finally jumping into the EV bandwagon.

Looking at March Best Selling models, all three(!) top models hitting record sales, with the #1 Renault Zoe reaching 587 units, the Tesla Model S  delivering 457 new copies and the Audi A3 e-Tron registering 446 units.

Belou these three, we find the BMW i3 (398 units), continuing on a high note, while the Outlander PHEV had its best result ever in Germany, with 358 units.

Looking at the YTD ranking, the Top Two BMW i3 and Renault Zoe continue their two horse race, this time with advantage to the Renault model.

Below these two, things are anything less interessing (Almost like in Formula E races), with several changes across the ranking:

- The #3 Outlander PHEV and #4 Audi A3 e-Tron both jumped two positions, pushing back the BMW 225xe Act.Tourer two positions (It is now #4) and the Kia Soul three positions to #5;

- The Tesla Model S jumped two positions to #6, while the Nissan Leaf climbed to #8, three positions above last year result;

- Major jumps for the Tesla Model X, up six positions to #11, the Mini Countryman PHEV also up nine spots to #26 (There have been rumors of thousands-long waiting lists for the plu-in Mini, BMW might have another winner here), while the much-awaited Opel Ampera-e climbed na additional three positions to #28, while preparing for a full-on launch in the market.  

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW (25%) stayed in the lead, followed by Renault (12%) and Mercedes (11%).

As the Tesla Sports Sedan reaches historical high levels, the usual direct competitors are starting to be left behind, so it's time to look upwards and see who's next on the list of  the Model S ICE-killing.

Time to focus then on the BMW and Mercedes flagship vessels, the BMW 7-Series registered 602 units last month, so it is still some 150 units above the Californian, but if sales continue to grow, maybe a year from now even the Commanders-in-chief of BMW and Mercedes could be threatened by the all-electric sedan. In their own home...

At a time of record deliveries for the Model X, the Tesla Sports SUV is starting to tickle its most direct competitors, even if numbers are half of the Cayenne and F-Pace, it is enough to reach the tail of the BMW X6, one of the pioneers of the whole Sports SUV oxymoron.
