(Zity-driven) Record Month

The EV market in Spain is boiling hot, with plug-ins up four-fold in October, to a record 1.182 units, pulling the yearly tally to 5.769 units, up 112% YoY, with the PEV Share at a record 0.6%. 

This historic result, in 2014 this market had registered 1.452 units during the whole year, had a decisive help from the Zity carsharing company, a partnership between Renault and Ferrovial, operating in the capital Madrid, that deployed 500 Renault Zoe last month, thus inflating the monthly result and catapulting the French hatchback to the front of the pack, having delivered over 1.000 units this year, becoming the first model to reach four digits in one year, breaking one of the oldest records in the EV world, that was still in the hands of the Renault Twizy (943 units in 2012).

Good month also for the VW Golf siblings, with the plug-in hybrid GTE rising to #9 and the all-electric e-Golf jumping to #11, thanks to a record 52 deliveries. In these two last months, the German BEV registered more units (96) than in the rest of its three year career (66)...

Moving on, the Mini Countryman PHEV confirms the warm welcome it is having in this market, rising to #10, being the current Rookie of the Year.

On the manufacturers ranking, the current leader BMW (18%) is now heavily pressured by the Zity-boosted Renault, with only five units (1.037 vs 1.032) separating them, while the Third Place is being hardly fought by Mitsubishi (10%), Nissan (9%) and the rising Volkswagen (8%).
