Kia Optima PHEV Climbs to Third
We start May with the Sweden sales report, the local plug-in market was up 81% YoY, with 2,176 registrations, helping the yearly tally to grow +67% regarding the same period last year, placing the PEV Share at 7%.
Diesel sales continue to sink, with this fuel representing only 39% of last month sales, a steep 14% drop over the 53% of April '17, which makes the prediction of symbolic diesel sales by 2025 starting to look somewhat conservative. And to think in 2012, Diesel had 67% of the market...
Looking at April Best Sellers, the VW Passat GTE continues to rule without discussion, having scored 427 units (Year best), with the Third Place belonging to the Kia Optima PHEV, with 239 deliveries, also a year best.
More surprising were the 207 registrations (Year best) of the Volvo V60 PHEV, a model in sunset mode.

Looking at the YTD ranking, the Kia Optima PHEV climbed two positions to Third Place, being followed by the Volvo V60 PHEV, which has also risen two positions, to Fourth.
The remaining changes happened on the second half of the Top 20, with the BMW i3 climbing to #13 and its 530e sibling also rising to #15 (50 units in April, year best), while the Golf plug-ins also had reasons to smile, with the PHEV GTE jumping to #16, while the BEV e-Golf was up one position, to #18.
A mention for the Porsche Panamera PHEV joining the ranking, in #20, while the Tesla Model S registered 44 units, the best first-month-of-the-quarter in a year, which could mean that Tesla is focusing deliveries in overseas markets on this Q2, but we will have the opportunity to be back at this subject in other reports throughout the month...
Close race in the manufacturers ranking, with Volvo (22%, up 1%) resisting the advances of last year leader Volkswagen (20%), with Kia closing the podium, with 15% share, comfortably ahead of BMW (10%).

Combining April sales of regular hybrids with plug-ins, HEVs are in majority this time, with three Toyota hybrids in the Top 5, while the VW Passat GTE remained in Second Place, enjoying the company of the #5 Volvo XC60 PHEV.
No PHEVs Will not be penalized. They will in general get a much higher bonus than today. The i3 REx will even get $3,5k more in bonus than today.
ReplyDeleteSo both BEVs and PHEVs will surge during the second half of the year. That is why their sales are so low now. Expect 12-15% per month by the end of the year.
