Renault Twizy leader in Colombia
Colombia is back at EV Sales, with 248 units sold in 2018, the market has catched the growth fastlane, having already surpassed the result of 2017 (196 units in the whole year), while the current record (278 units, in 2016) is a couple of months away from being obliterated, allowing the PEV Share needle to start moving, now at 0.2%.
After the first pioneering years having been divided between Mitsubishi (2011 & '12) and BYD (2013 & '14), the First Year of the Electric Car in Colombia (2015) coincided with the arrival of BMW and Renault, with both sharing the titles since then (Renault in 2015 & '16, BMW in 2017).
The Renault Twizy in particular, struck a chord in the local market and registered 215 units that year, being the Best Selling model since 2015.
This year, the French model is once again ahead, but the BMW 330e is proving to be quite popular, becoming the Best Selling PHEV in the country.
BMW has another model in the podium, with the i3 registering 34 units, underlining the (relative) success that the German hot hatch has in Colombia, where it already registered more than 100 units since it landed.
Keeping with the BMW vs Renault theme, the Fourth position goes for Renault, with the Zoe, while #5 went for the BMW X5 PHEV.
Looking at the brands ranking, BMW is ahead, with 43% share, followed by Renault, with 36%, while other brands have 5% of the market or less.

José, you had never made an article dedicated to Brazilian market. Understandable in the beginning of this decade, but now the government had erased the import taxes (50%) for electric cars and the sales numbers are growing consequently with 1085 electric and hybrid cars sold in 2016; 3278 in 2017 and already 893 in the first quarter of 2018 (to be compared with the 562 sold in the first quarter of 2017).
ReplyDeleteI saw this information there: https://tecnologia.ig.com.br/2018-04-17/carros-eletricos-brasil.html
The only doubt I have is the hybrid cars cited are only plug-in hybrids or also regular hybrids. I couldn't find the information. Did you have some tips about that.
Rewards for going on with your awesome job in doing this blog.
Thanks Marsusul, Brazil was one of those markets where i only have only partial information of the sales, so i didn't ventured on a sales report, even if if it was just a draft.
DeleteIf someone has PEV sales data by model in Brazil, even if it is just the Top 3, i would gladly publish it here.
