At least for now, Belgium is Tesla territory |
In a general off month for EV's in Belgium, BMW won on their direct competitors, recovering a bit to Tesla (23 units sold) and substantially to Porsche (Only 10 Panamera Plug-ins sold, worst performance of the year), the bavarian automaker is now more comfortably placed in #2 both in the manufacturers and models ranking.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV continues to impress, it was again #4 in July, with 14 units sold, but it's still #6 YTD, behind the Nissan Leaf and Volvo V60 Plug-In, both racing neck to neck for the #4 position.
Two newcomers deserve a mention, the chinese brand BYD registered 19 e6's (Let me guess: Taxi fleet deal?) and VW registered its first 5 e-Golf's, this could be one of the markets where the german best-seller should be most successful, even the leadership could be in its sights...

Damn right it is! I was in Belgium the other day, saw 3 Teslas (1 on which was in a Tesla store), mainly in Brussles. By god did I freak out! LEAFs were no where to be found but there were a number of Smart EDs and i-MiEVs.
ReplyDeleteMaastricht is a lot different, an Outlander, Ampera and Volt every few minutes on the road, with no pure EV in sight. But I think I didn't try to look hard enough, I spent more of my time there looking at the college girls cycling and playing chicken with no one crossing the road by not getting to grips of how the pedestrian always has priority. Very weird concept to an Irishman!
Compare Antwerp and Liege?
DeleteTeslas are indeed the EVs you see on the road most in Belgium, Zwizy and Ampera are more or less tied for second, the i3 comes after that, but I've seen a couple of Leafs as well.
ReplyDeleteI never count the ones on dealer lots, that doesn't count :)
Tesla's brand awareness (And enthusiasm) in Belgium is widespread, my guess is that the american brand will keep on growing there for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteOffib: Cyclist and pedestrian priorities there are indeed a bit confusing for people not used to the local rules, the first time i drove there, i almost ran over a biker...
