Tesla Escapes Porsche Edition
Taking advantage of the weak performance by the Porsche Panamera Plug-In (Only 22 units sold), Tesla hit the pedal (93 sales, best result ever for a single model), and like a cyclist on the Tour de France, it distanced itself from its direct rivals, the #2 BMW i3 and the aforementioned Porsche.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was #4 in June, with 12 units sold, but it's still #6 YTD, a performance far behind other countries, like Sweden or the neighboring Holland. Bad promotion from Mitsubishi Belgium or just a matter of taste?
The rest of the competition is way behind, with all other models selling in single digits. In the end of the table there's a newcomer, the hot BMW i8 has landed.
A reader from Belgium sent me a possible reason to why high-end plug-ins have such success there, according to him, "EV's and PHEV's are 120% deductible for a company whereas a normal BMW, Audi etc of this size only for 70% I guess. That's why the Panamera and the Model S are selling pretty well in our country, and that's why the other smaller models like the Leaf and the Zoe aren't. CEO's in Belgium won't rapidly go for such a small company car... For employees who have a company car, there is a monthly taxation calculated on the CO2 output and the price of the car, but as a lot of the cars now have less than 120 gr/km, the taxes are really low for a company car."

DeleteWhy is your total 198 and the government statistics say 263 new electric vehicles?

I didn't had access to electric LCV's and quadricycles, so that might be one of the reasons for that difference.
ReplyDeleteAnother possible cause are imports from other countries.
