"Hello, my name is Jose Pontes and i'm a what you can call a car geek, with a particular interest in the green side of the auto landscape." - It was with these words that i introduced myself on the first post, back in late 2012, explaining why i had created this blog and promising to post reports on the 25(!) markets i was already covering by then.
Back in those days, the EV Revolution was far less certain than it is now, and PHEV sales were ahead of BEVs, but on the 2013 Preview post, i was mentioning several important additions, like the Renault Zoe, BMW i3, VW e-Up and a certain Tesla Model S...
For me it was interesting to see what i wrote then about these models, saying things like the Zoe had everything to become the Best Selling EV in Europe (so far, it has 3 Best Seller trophies - 2016, '17 and '20), questioning if the BMW i3 high price wouldn't prevent it to become a Best Seller (it's highest standings in Europe were a #2 spot, in 2017, and one #3 in 2018, while the much cheaper Zoe has always been on Europe's podium since 2013...).
Of course, not everything i wrote was prescient, after all, despite saying that the Tesla Model S was going to be the poster car for the EV Revolution, i had doubts that it would top the charts...Which it did, winning the Global Best Seller status in 2015, and earning 3 more podium positions (#3 in 2014, and #2 in 2016 & '17).
Funny enough, in August 2013, i made an update to that post, reporting that Volkswagen was sabotaging their own electric efforts. Remember, this was still pre-dieselgate Volkswagen Group, when it was still on the wrong side of the Revolution...
And volumes were far smaller than now, in the final 2012 Global ranking, i was celebrating that fact that sales had doubled regarding 2011, to...124.000 units. Right now, China or Europe alone beat that number in a single month...That's how far we have become.
EV Sales continued to grow at 50%-plus fates in the following years, but by 2015, plugins were still seen by the mainstream media and most of the Legacy OEMs as "something for the future", that indefinite thing that can be 5 or 25 years time...
Until Dieselgate hit.
After the presentation of the Tesla Model S, this was the second accelerator moment of the EV Revolution, as it forced one of the biggest Global Legacy OEMs to make a sudden change of direction and bet on whatever EV projects they had at the time, looking back, that near death experience is what allowed them now to be one step ahead of the remaining Legacy competition, after all, of the Top 3 Legacy OEMs (VW, Toyota, Renault-Nissan), the VW Group is the only one on the plugin Top 5 (either PEV or just BEV), as the Japanese maker continues a laggard, and the Alliance is constantly losing charge since Carlos Ghosn left the company.
Another accelerator was the presentation, and subsequent reservation fever, of the Tesla Model 3, back in 2016, for the first time, an EV was playing head to head with the best ICE Best Sellers, not only in specs, but also in price, something that still today most BEVs lose out to their ICE counterparts.
In 2017, the Plugin market hit its first million units in one year, and growth rates continued at 50%-plus rates, so we would have the global market fully electrified by 2030...
But then, subsidy changes in China, by mid-2019, have sent Chinese EV Sales down a cliff, and because at that time, they represented 66%(!) of the global BEV sales, global sales suffered, leading to a full year of constant drops, with the Covid pandemic, that had revealed itself in late 2019, helping along, in the first months of 2020.
We have not only surpassed the "Will EVs win?" question, but we are now also surpassing the "How fast?" question (answer: Before 2030), from now on, the electrification process is more or less predictable, being a true arms race between all the OEMs (Legacy, Chinese, Startups, etc) for supremacy/survival, and with electrification now becoming mainstream, last year, 10% of all new passenger cars globally had some form of electrification system, i believe the mission of this blog (document and promote the EV Revolution) is coming to an end.
As such, it is with some sadness that i am announcing that i will stop posting new articles on the EV Sales blog
Besides personal reasons, namely lack of time, EV Sales started out because there was little available data on plugin sales, but now there are several media outlets that play that role, so one can say that the blog has already fulfilled its role, now that others are doing what EV Sales has done over the last 9 years, its time for the EV Sales blog to enjoy its retirement, in a tropical island by the sea, while drinking a Marguerita.
For those that on top of the EV Sales data, enjoy my writing and would like to continue following my analyses, digressions and rants, i will continue writing on CleanTechnica, as i had in the past, and nothing will be changed there.
To all the readers that have formed this EV Sales community over the years, and to those in particular that have helped the blog to florish, be it through suggestions or new data, i want to leave my sincere gratitude here, this wild ride wouldn't have been possible without your help.
Thank you! And good luck to you too!

DeleteJose, THANK YOU for your hard work, and valuable information you provided for all these years. You are a great example and motivation for all of us who promote electromobility around the world. Looking forward to your articles in Clean Technica. Stay safe and healthy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan, looking forward to see you on CT!
DeleteJose, I started reading your blog years ago and it was always the "good news of the day" for me! Thank you for all your effort and all the best for the future!!
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThanks a lot for a great blog, and an important contribution to knowledge and awareness of EV sales status world wide. I do work as CEO of an electronics startup. Understanding the transition from ICE to EV is important to understand the dynamic electronics industry. So thank you so much for your great work and enjoy the retirement and the margaritas.
ReplyDeleteWill do! (I am doing :D)
DeleteBig thanks from Ukraine. Thank you for your efforts. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and i promise one of these days to go to Ukraine, it's one of those countries i am most curious to know!
DeleteThanks a lot! Your blog was always the go to source.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThanks. I check this blog nearly every day for updates. And Cleantechnica.
ReplyDeleteThanks, looking forward to see you on CT!
DeleteJose, this is really sad. Your blog was and still is the best place to find EV sales information.
ReplyDeleteWithout it, it will be much harder to find out about the progress of e-mobility.
Also your insight and comments were very valuable.
Enjoy your retirement.
I will be be looking forward to your contributions on cleantechnica.com.
Thanks, looking forward to hear from you on CT!
DeleteHave you though of using this blog to just post links to your CleanTechnica articles? One reason I liked this blog so much is the ease of finding older data, plus it should help increase the readership of your articles.
ReplyDeleteI have posted the last CT articles here, and part of me wants to continue doing so, but i am not sure i will be able to do it on every article.
DeleteSo, all things said, i will try to post the links to the CT articles, but maybe not all will be here.
Drats, one reason I really like coming here, is in a single post I get the same information that takes reading and digest a dozen articles elsewhere. I am going to miss your sales charts.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you visit my CT articles?...
DeleteThanks a lot for all the cheer you brought us with the news of ever growing EV sales over the past decade. Wishing you a happy future!
ReplyDeleteThank you José and good luck

DeleteThanks for your amazing work over the years, Jose. You are the goto web site for EV sales and trends. Other sites may report some numbers, but none come close to "doing what EV Sales has done". I hope you enjoy all your freed-up time, you've definitely earned it!
ReplyDeleteI was not a regular contributor in the comment section, but your blog was part of my daily information shot. Thank you for your hard work and for your enthusiasm. I wish you good fortune in everything you intend to do in your future!
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteWow, Jose, I was sure that this blog will be with me forever... I`ve read it every week for 4 years.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, last year I`ve stopped to read every single post and comment a lot because process of electrification started to be much more centralized and less engaging.
Still, I would really appreciate if you could continue to post somewhere stats on China, Europe and global! I`ve read those every single time during these 4 years.
Anyway, thank you a lot for this amazing 4 years! You`ve done a lot for this planet!
Thanks, it's great to see one's work appreciated, and don't forget to check my CT articles!
DeleteJose- I stumbled across ev sales around a year ago, when I was fascinated by the shift from ICE --> EVs. I have started reloading and searching the page daily (sometimes twice and three times a day) and I cannot express the joy I felt when the top of the page's writing was blue to symbolize an unread article. I look forward to continue reading your thorough and insightful analysis on @CleanTechnica. Thank you for all of your hard work.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and i am looking forward to hear from you on CT!
DeleteYay! good riddance
ReplyDeleteAre you ready hey are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Another Tesla fanboi bites the dust
Another Tesla warrior bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another Tesla fanboi bites the dust
Hey I'm gonna get you too
Another Tesla warrior bites the dust
Are you happy are you satisfied?
How long can you stand the heat?
F¥CK YOU, Let's go
Ahhh...My favorite troll! Do you miss me already? Or have you found another place to troll around?
DeleteThank you for the lyrics, no one had ever written a song about me...
Just one question about the lyrics, who is the Tesla fanboi? You or me? I'm confused...
Good riddance, Anonymous troll!
Big thanks for your efforts from Romania.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at Cleantechnica!
Thanks, and i hope to hear from you on Cleantechnica!
DeleteThank you José ! I followed your updates for years, always happy to get news even from almost every country in the world. You did an amazing job, hope you'll keep being amazing in the future, once you've finished your supply of margheritas !
ReplyDeleteThanks, funny how only 3 weeks have passed and i already miss EV Sales...
DeleteI will surely do something on the media that is EV related, beyond the CT articles, but for now i am charging the batteries and thinking in future projects.
Maybe i will post some news about in a few months?...
Thank you for the good news over the years and good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I have been checking for a new post every day since near the beginning.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThx for all

DeleteThank you so much!

DeleteThanks, sad to see this end. Checked it regularly. Thanks. Will it still be accessible for a while?
ReplyDeleteYes, it will stay here as long the Blogger platform allows it to be.
DeleteThank you from Spain José!
ReplyDeleteGracias! :-)
DeleteThank you Jose for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteAll the best
Cheers from New Zealand
Thanks, and once all this Covid pandemic ends, i promise to visit New Zealand, it's one of those countries that is on my "To visit" list!
DeleteThis is indeed a sad month.
ReplyDeleteThank you for everything. You'll be sorely missed.
Well, you can check out my Cleantechnica articles... ;-)
DeleteA big thank you! .cj
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteFor me your blog has been one of the most important sources of information for several years, my sincere thanks and respect for the work done.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's great to see one's work apreciated.
DeleteSorry to close this blog. I don't think there is a lot of information about sales of electric vehicles right now, since everyone referred to you. Only if you write more on CleanTecnica, or recommend other sites. Better yet, if someone else continues your business - publish 5 days a week sales in different countries until they reach 100% of ev sales.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked out EAFO? (eafo.eu)
DeleteTo be honest, I started reading CleanTechnica a year ago only because of the ev sales reports at the beginning of each month, when you started to publish less often here. Other articles there are not interesting to read, too stretched, one water. I'm sorry about your closure.
ReplyDeleteThanks, i hope you continue reading my articles on CT!
DeleteThank You very much, dear Jose! I can imagine, that it is lots of work to get and to filter hundreds of informations every week. Wish You all the best!
ReplyDeleteIt is...It can drain you out completely, sometimes it created a conflict between the will to do things, and the time/energy to get it done.
DeleteThis is one of the reasons why EV Sales ended, at least in this format.
Although i miss it, it has been good to have the extra time and recharge batteries, maybe in the future i will return, in a less time intensive way...Maybe with a forum?
Thanks for all your efforts, been enjoying your blog for most most of its 9 years, good luck in your new ventures!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Tom
Thanks, Tom!

Thank you for your work. I do not think however that this data is out there through other pages. Most of what I saw used this blog as a source.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteRegarding data, that was becoming one of my problems, in markets where i knew i didn't had reliable data, many of the few sources i found mentioned EVS as a source...
Thank you for your work and good luck with the future.

DeleteThank you Jose, what a remarkable mission that was fulfilled! :) I remember the beginnings, trying to look for some EV statistics and yours were the best. Thanks a again for all your effort thoughout the years and ups and downs, not it is only up :) enjoy your Margarhitta's :)

DeleteHi Jose. Thank you for your great work.
ReplyDeleteDid you consider move it to Patreon? I would love to support you this way.
It is a possibility for the future, i will surely return with something new, maybe not so time intensive, maybe a weekly article or something, but for the time being i am just recharging batteries and projecting what to do next.
DeleteThank you very much, I have appreciated your efforts over the years.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteMuito obrigado José. Good luck in your new projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your valuable contribution all these years. I can only imagine how much work and research goes into even one of your articles. However, it was well worth it.
ReplyDeleteFor years now the first thing when I opened my computer in the morning was to check your blog and to get the good news of the day. It was so exciting to see how the EV Revolution was progressing (most of the time) in so many countries around the world.
As you pointed out, we have come a long ways, but in many ways we have just begun. Now comes the truly exciting times where we will see EV growth accelerate and take over the world.
Unfortunately, a comprehensive source for EV Sales data is hard to find and without this blog the world will be in the dark as to the true magnitude of the EV Revolution.
I can understand your reasons, but I think you are retiring quite a bit to early.
Hopefully, someone else will pick up your mantle and start a blog like this. It is sorely needed for the EV community. As I offered before, I am willing to help in a group effort.
In the meantime can you point us to another source that offers at least some of the information you provided?
Thank you again for your wonderful work. I am looking forward to continue reading your articles on Clean Technica.
Same here: checking this site has been part of my morning routine for years -- frankly, I feel a bit lost now...
Delete@Why & Antrik: Have you checked EAFO (eafo.eu)?
DeleteIt has some interesting graphs on the development of the EV Revolution in Europe.
My Friend Jose Pontes
ReplyDeleteI sensed this is coming for these 3 reasons
1. # of plugin models has increased a lot that collecting data becomes all the more complicated.
2. # of postings declined steadily to just 6 (Netherlands, France, Germany, China, Europe & Global).
3. Arrogant automakers refusing to reveal the breakup between ICE and plugin variants.
Every journey comes to an end.
I wish you spend more time with your family, whether its
* raising children
* taking care of parents
* speding time with wife/girlfriend.
I wish you good luck and god bless you in your future endeavor.

Chicago, Illinois, USA and Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Thank you Famlin, for the great comments you have posted here over the years, i hope to see you at the Cleantechnica articles and in my future media projects (I know they will happen, just don't know when... :D )
DeleteA Lion tells a Man that it can fix the broken Watch.
ReplyDeleteHesitantly Man gives his Watch to Lion.
Lion takes the watch inside his den and later comes back with perfectly running Watch.
Man asks Lion: How did you fix it with your big paws.
Lion tells Man: Its my buddies (Rabbits) inside the den which fixed the Watch.
Moral: Though Lions like Musk stand in the front, its the Rabbits like Jose Pontes who work hard inside to provide all this info to promote plugins.
I am sure many who visited this website could have taken the info, motivation and positive energy to buy a plugin.
Jose Pontes: Your service to electric mobility will be remembered: Forever.
Great story, i think i will use it somewhere, sometime in the future.
DeleteThank you very much. I really appreciate all the time you "donated" to help the rest of us. Would you mind providing a few links of where one might continue to follow this information going forward? Really appreciated.
ReplyDeleteBesides my Cleatechnica articles (obviously...), you can visit EAFO (eafo.eu), you can check the developments of EVs throughout the years in Europe.
Delete@Jose Pontes: I regularly collected the monthly global sales and also the sales of high volume models like Tesla (Model-S/X/Y/3), Wuling Miniev, Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, BMW i3.
ReplyDeleteIf possible, can you please provide (in reply) the global cumulative sales of Model-S & Model-X. Otherwise, its still ok.
Wow, what a wonderful website you have created: Monthly sales, YTD sales, Top-20, Annual and semi annual analysis, BEV vs PHEV breakup. I really enjoyed reading these more than watching movies/games.
Electric Mobility
Your Mission *** ACHIEVED ***
+1!
DeleteThank you Jose !!
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteEverything comes to an end, but this is a sad day. This is by far the best source for EV sales
ReplyDeleteThe other sites combined don't get the same amount of information as you provided us José. And when they did it was by referring to you or by republishing your work.
I want to thank you, deeply. And if there is any way to change your mind then let us know, because your blog is still very much needed. Too much disinformation is still out there.
Once again thank you, from a daily visitor for many years.
Thank you for the kind words Mikael, it's always nice to see one's work appreciated.
DeleteEV Sales reporting has ended, but besides the Cleantechnica articles, i am in a "battery recharging" stage, so after that, something new should come up in the future, so stay tuned!
Some other news pieces to share.
ReplyDelete---
LFP battery which is safer, durable, cheaper is accelerating rapidly and has already captured 60 +% share among batteries in china last month. china may consume more than 1/2 of the Worlds battery since 80% of the plugins sold there are BEVs. So this year, most likely LFP : NCM ratio will be 1 : 1.
---
290 million electric 2/3 wheelers are running worldwide which is 2/3 of their fleet. So smaller vehicle could switch over to electric much faster than electric 4 wheelers which are just 1 % of its fleet.
That means the smaller 4 seater/5 door electric cars/crossovers should be the next in line to go electric big time.
No wonder, cars like Wuling Miniev, Ora Cat, Leapmotor T03 are increasing fast. Ideally these sized cars can handle most of the daily commute, weekly shopping and occasional long distance trips with 2 suitcases.
Of course the 6-wheelers like buses will move to electric on another front.
Among the 4-wheelers, the most expensive will be the last to convert to electric.
Most likely, the last could be some 3 million euro car with 16 cylinders.
---
Many of our office colleagues (especially managers/directors) dont switch off their monitors/lights when they leave office for home. So I dont expect the big guys leasing PHEV in corporate lease to charge their vehicles at night.
And these people tell the poor in the developing world to cut their consumption.
Is it laziness or arrogance?
---
Honda sold Clarity sedan in USA in PHEV, Electric & Fuelcell versions. In 2020, they cut the Electric (89 mile/142 km range). Now they discontinued the model (PHEV & Fuelcell). This shows Hondas lack of interest in selling any vehicle powered fully by motor though they are continuing to increase the full hybrids. No wonder, their sales in europe are crashing and is going down in china also.
Shanghai has stopped exempting the HongGuang and other mini EVs from license plate restrictions. Why? While I've yet to see an official explanation, I'm pretty sure that's because -- if I'm reading the data correctly -- the AOO (tiny car) segment in China is virtually 100% BEV already: so booming sales of these EVs do not increase the number of people switching from combustion cars, but rather the number of people switching from two-wheelers and public transport -- not a good kind of change...
DeleteDear Jose,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for running this amazing blog! It has certainly been part of my life since I discovered it some time in 2013 or 2014.
Against a constant stream of negative and stressful general news, I knew that EV Sales Blog is one place to find generally good news, delivered with optimism and a charming sense of humor. And I could have never put together my annual Top Countries list (starting 2014) without your blog.
Are you going to continue contributing to eafo.eu, Europe's quasi-official EV data resource?
What is your recommended English-language source for China EV sales?
Wishing you all the best whatever it is you choose to do next.
Assaf
Hi Assaf, thank you for the kind words, regarding the future, EAFO is here to stay, just like my CT articles, including China, and who knows in the future our ways might bump in?
DeleteAnd don't stop with your Top Countries list, it's alwways a good source for information, written in an entertaining way.
Thank you, thank you! EV Sales was a site i frequently visited. There was always something interesting to find. When the local media in Germany hyped some bs it was nice to see that other markets were not affected by that. Good luck in what you do and thanks again for educating and entertaining my brain.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's always nice to know one's work did a positive impact in the world.
Deleteps - "Just read the instructions" Great nickname! LOL
Are you sure EV-Volumes.com has nothing to do with this?
ReplyDeleteThat's a paid subscription site for EV sales figures that you run too.
Please don't get me wrong, it's ok to earn money with your work! But why not be upfront about it? There's no shame in saying you want to focus on this instead of the blog. Really no need to hide it behind "others are doing what EV Sales has done over the last 9 years".
Silly, the same stories as before are being posted for free by Jose on Cleantechnica.
DeleteHopefully they are paying him well. He certainly deserves it.
@Anonymous: It had nothing to do with the EV Volumes sister website, it's like comparing Facebook with LinkedIn, both serve different purposes, as the several years of coexistence have shown.
DeleteBesides, as Assaf has mentioned, the articles will continue on CT...
Very sad to read this today Jose. I have been checking 3 times a day for many years to check a new post. Do you recommend us another source, where should we go now? Please post in CleanTechnica often, otherwise we will not get any info. If you can recommend where to go to find some of the info it would be helpful already. Thanks for all your work, really enjoyed. I will miss the blog tremendously. Very sad day. Take care and be safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, currently i need some time to recharge batteries, but i will surely return in the future with something new, probably something less time intensive, but in the meantime, besides the Cleantechnica articles, you can check EAFO (eafo.eu), where you can see the development of EVs over the years in Europe.
DeleteThank you for your efforts over the years. Have a nice rest and success in the next endeavors.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThanks Jose! I respect the insane dedication
ReplyDeleteThanks, and you are right, sometimes it bordered on the definition of "insane"...
DeleteIt would be most appreciated if you would continue with your reports until the end of the year's sales. Leaving the blog at less than half mast is a disappointment Or as a previous poster has said "Still, I would really appreciate if you could continue to post somewhere stats on China, Europe and global!" In any case thank you very much for taking the trouble to keep the world informed of the progress of EV Sales.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jose! You can be proud of what you did. Good luck in future endeavors
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThanks José for all your Great work all these years.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteJose, I've long followed your data here on the blog, and found it enormously helpful in tracking the rate of adoption of electric vehicles. Your work is greatly appreciated and will be missed!
ReplyDeleteThis already feels greedy to ask, but perhaps you could do us in your audience a favor as you head to a deserved retirement. Your farewell post suggests that this data is accumulated and published regularly elsewhere now. Could you provide a link to somewhere, perhaps even at Clean Technica, that comes the closest to providing regular update on EV sales and adoption?
Thanks so much,
Alan
Besides the obvious "Jose Pontes Cleantechnica" articles, i would also suggest EAFO (eafo.eu), where it documents the evolution of the EV Revolution in Europe.
DeleteThank you, Jose!
ReplyDeleteYou have been a top source of information and insight for many of us for many years now. Hope you post more on CleanTechnica with this change!
Actually your blog post is pretty unique. It offers round up of global and country based EV sales figures hard to find elsewhere. Momentous changes are occuring. Tesla is presumed to dominate world EV (and global auto) sales in few years, but that presumption maybe completely unrealistic. Real sales figure around the world is only way to see who is right in next few years, Musk fanbois or Regular car guys.
ReplyDeleteThanks, actually the only article that i publish and consider unique in the World is the Global Top 20, it seems amazing that after 10 years of the start of the Third Age of the Electric car, no one else has made something similar (with a minimum of reliability, of course), that is why that article will become a regular on Cleantechnica.
DeleteAnd you are right, if you only hear most of the EV-related media, one would think that Tesla truly dominates sales, when in fact, the cold, hard numbers, tell a more nuanced story.
Muito obrigado José! You did a great job for the EV world by keeping track of sales around the word. From Costa Rica I wish you luck in your next projects.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And i am curious to visit Costa Rica, it is on my "To visit" countries list.
DeleteVery sad news. I would like to thank you very much for all the hard work you have put in to give us the great information. I will truly miss this blog - I don't think there is another source of such good numbers, presented so completely. This was unique.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words, it is always nice to see one's work appreciated.
DeleteAnd don't forget to check out my articles on Cleantechnica!
Thank you José! I have been reading your blog with great pleasure and I am sad to see you retire it. Best of luck in your future endeavours!
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThis is also sad, because I think the most interesting part of BEV sales data is just coming in the next 2-4 years. I think BEV sales are much more interesting than PHEV sales. Maybe just focusing on those can save time if you or somebody else decides to continue this blog in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I was looking forward to more Norway moments across the world. Especially the development of ev markets outside of Europe and China
DeleteThanks for the tips, i will have them in mind in future EV-related projects.
DeleteThanks for your tireless work! I've been using your data on my "EV Revolution" Shows for my YT Channel since 2016. Been great to be kept up to date with the numbers and all the best in your next efforts!

ReplyDeleteThank you for all your posts. Your site has been my source of knowledge for some years now. I enjoyed it very much and will miss it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and don't forget to check out my Cleantechnica articles!
DeleteMany Thanks for the past few years. I enjoyed watching this EV revolution realizing from this blog
ReplyDeleteThanks, it has been quite a ride, hasn't it?
DeleteSadly I only discovered this blog recently. It is the best one for EV Sales Data and comments. Thank you for your amazing work on this blog over the years.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThank you Jose for years of insights. EV Sales was a regular place for incredible content unparalleled in the EV world. Keep safe and good luck
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThanks for all you have done. I will be missing these reports. Take care!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and you will always have my Cleantechnica reports to now all about the most recent sales developments...
Delete;-)
Thank you Jose.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe for this blog, i was following it from the beginning and i glad that you did it for us for evereone for EV revolution. Big thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello Jose, just an idea: in Cleantechnica it is very hard to find any section with the EV sales reports per country which are published. Could you pelase create one.
ReplyDeleteWill let them know
DeleteHello Jose,
ReplyDeleteYou mention "now there are several media outlets that play that role"
Which other media outlets are you referring to?
Good luck with your future projects!
Cleantechnica, InsideEVs, EAFO (eafo.eu)...
DeleteAt first I was shocked when I saw the title, but after so many years of GREAT WORK I guess it's a good idea to use more of your time for yourself, I guess we lazy readers will find alternatives.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your free time and thank you very very much for the many times your posts made my day!
As to your view regarding the EVlution, you are right. We surpassedthe point of no return (in a very positive way;-)
Yep, we have come a long way since 2012, back then the media articles regarding EVs, and the sales themselves, were far less encouraging, and there was a real risk that the EV Revolution would fail once again.
DeleteWhen writing this article, i looked back to the early days, and was shocked to see how different things were in 2012/13.
Thank you Jose for the great work over the years. From counting some LEAFs & Model S in the beginning to huge numbers in the last years! Thx for supporting the EV revolution.
ReplyDeleteDear Jose,
ReplyDeleteYou have done an amazing job here for so long. Much appreciated and hope to follow you at Clean Technica.
Regards,
Matt Bohlsen
Thanks, looking forward to hear from you on CT!
DeleteWow! This is really sad news! Let me start by also thanking you for the invaluable work over the years. By far, your site has been the most consistent and easiest to research source of EV sales data. Without it, it will be super hard to compile the data to monitor progress. I hope that, at least quarterly or annually, you will post the data on CT for Global, Europe and China. Best of luck for whatever is coming up for you next!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, and don't worry, those markets will continue to be reported on CT.
Deletethx, from Taiwan.
ReplyDelete+1!
DeleteThank you for all your efforts, you were always the most detailed and reliable source of information about whole EV market, and it's really sad to loose your portal. Greetings from Poland!

DeleteLooking at the Model 3/Y breakup in CT, I see that Model Y sales stands above 230.000. Another BEV to cross the 200.000 mark and its the 3rd from Tesla family.
ReplyDeleteModel Y is above 190.000, but wont hit the mark this year.
https://cleantechnica.com/2021/07/03/tesla-model-3-model-y-model-s-model-x-sales-estimates-1st-half-of-2021/
Model Y will probably outsell the Model 3 globally, and become the brand best seller, at least until the compact model shows up.
DeleteThanks for your work mate!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel the same about PushEVs, that maybe it's time to move on. Nowadays people prefer to watch videos on YouTube than reading blogs.
I will keep reading your articles at CleanTechnica.
Thanks! As a regular reader of PushEVs, it would be sad to see it end, as it is a precious source of information regarding batteries and Chinese EVs, among other things.
DeleteThanks a lot for the effort you have put in! CleanTechnica is also a great platform for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and i agree, CT is a good place to be.
DeleteWell, I'm sorry to see you go! I've been visiting this blog almost since you began it.
ReplyDeleteYou say there are other sources of data. Could you list a couple? I'm a pensioner and can't afford to subscribe for data for my blog about climate change and the clean energy revolution ( http://volewica.blogspot.com/ )
Dear José,
ReplyDeleteI am following your blog since several years, mostly silent yet very attentive. A great effort that you put into the blog and with so much background information. As a big supporter of the electrification it was very interesting to follow.
I agree, now EV's are on their way to the top and (most likely) nothing can stop them anymore. All the discussions of politicians if combustion engines should be banned from 2035, 2040 or at all, are already obsolete. Knowing what happened in the past 10 years and how much is currently invested in EV's and battery technology, its almost impossible to believe that in 10 years time anybody still wants to buy a combustion car. Lets see where we'll be in 2025?
I thank you a lot for all your work and efforts and wish you all the best for the future. I followed CT already before and will keep doing that.
Enjoy the Marguerita!
Regards from Sintra,
Sven
Thanks, Sven.
ReplyDelete(Someone called "Sven Dubai" based in Sintra?!? Nice...)
Based in Dubai and Sintra. My wife is from Sintra my job from Dubai ;-)
DeleteThank you for all of these years sharing value information Jose and for your reflexions about the PHEV-EV market. Let me know when you visit Tenerife to invite you a drink here. Cheers, Francisco. https://fjpsuarez.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks, will keep that in mind! :)
DeleteThanks a lot for your work and your time.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of us (electric car geeks) appreciate it.
Obrigado :)
Thanks :)
DeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeleteJose I was working in investment research in 2015 at Goldman on a series of reports on the low carbon transition. Your blog was the only source of useful data on electric vehicle sales at the time. It really contributed to a rethinking among investors about the prospects of the auto industry and the low carbon transition more broadly. Great work and lots of success for the future!
ReplyDeleteThank you JK, it is always nice to know that one's work does make an impact in changing the world for the better!
