The Times They Are Changing Edition

Just when you thought that the BMW i3 (197 units sold) would collect its first monthly #1, the Fortwo ED got its best result ever, with 311 units, making it also the best monthly performance of the year.

These two results helped the german EV market to score the best result of the year, with 832 units, helped also by a good result from the Renault Zoe (125 units). With the i3 starting to sell for real in November and the VW e-Up! also starting to roll of dealer lots, it looks that the growing trend will continue, with four digit numbers perfectly achievable.  A side effect of this sales growth is the EV Share rising to 0,209%, finally ahead of last years score of 0,198%.

As result of these numbers, the ranking had a few changes, with the most significant being the Renault Zoe climbing two positions to #2, with the Nissan Leaf dropping also two places to fourth. The little BMW i3 kept on climbing the sales chart, it's now #5, while another newcomer, the Model S (37 units sold) from Tesla, climbed another position to #8.

On a predominantly BEV market, the only Plug-In Hybrid to score significant sales is the Opel Ampera (#6, with 6% share), but the landing of the Volvo V60 Plug-In (33 units this month) and the imminent arrival of the Outlander PHEV could change that.

Finally, in the brands ranking, Renault (32%) is still #1, but Smart (30%) is very close, with Nissan in a distant third, with 15% share.

Because it got there first (2010), the Mitsu I-Miev is still the most common EV in Australia

Growing Trend Edition

The third quarter australian sales data became available and there are two numbers that translate accurately the status of electric cars there: 0,026% and 117%.

The first number is the aussie EV share, with just 237 sales this year, plug-ins are a very small portion of a market worth a million units.

The second refers to their growth rate regarding a year ago, in isolation it's a healthy sign for electric cars future here, but then again, high growth rates with such a small base are not that meaningful....

Modelswise, the Nissan Leaf continues at #1 with 118 units sold, doubling sales from a year ago. 

The Holden Volt is second with 89 units sold, failing to reach the Leaf's top spot, improving share to 40%.

Finally, in third, the Mitsubishi I-Miev closes the podium without much perspectives of improvement.

Up Again Edition

Things are improving again for EV's in little Estonia, with 95 units sold to date and 0,56% share, a solid 0,26% share improvement over last August.

Looking at the ranking, the Nissan Leaf continues head and shoulders on top, with the Mitsu I-Miev closing in to the #2 Mia Electric.

The darling of the electric bunch, the Model S has arrived to France

After several months selling bellow expectations, the french EV market sold 1.570 units, making it the second best month of the year (March saw 1.816 sales), with a number of bright spots, like the slow recovery of the Zoe (503 units, best month since June), the year best result of the Bolloré Blue Car (203 units), up two positions to #4, and another personal best score of the Nissan Leaf (198 units), a consistent competitor in the Hexagon.

A final comment for the BMW i3, 17 units is good start, let's see how it behaves in the coming months.

Volvo Shoots for the Moon

With close of 1.000 units sold in October, the V60 Plug-In keeps on improving its performance in the dutch EV market, already outselling the '12 YTD score of the Opel Ampera (2.696 units), but it's not just the swedish wagon that is on fire, the Renault Zoe reached a new personal best score (66 units) and regains the best selling BEV title, while the Mitsubishi I-Miev did its best result EVER in the Netherlands (Fleet deal?) with 41 units.

Two new models landed this month, the BMW i3 registered its first unit, preparing the full-on launch in November, while the Outlander PHEV joined this EV market with a bang (300 units), already reaching #5 in the YTD chart and preparing itself to fight the Volvo V60 for the top spot in the coming months.

All these good news meant a new monthly sales record (1.770 sales) for the dutch EV market and a new jump in the EV share (2,25%), now double of what it it was last year (1,10%).

Will the little e-Up! make an impact in Norway?

"Leaf is Number One!" Edition

After last months historical landmark, with the Tesla Model S reaching the Number One spot of the General Ranking, now was the time for the Nissan Leaf sell like hot cakes and register a record 716 units sold, reaching #1 in the global monthly ranking with 5,6% share and boosting their YTD share to 3,2%, making it #4 in the YTD Global Ranking. 

Putting things in perspective, the Nissan Leaf is #3 YTD in the compact ("C") segment, with 3.755 units, behind the #2 Toyota Auris (3.982 units) and the unreachable (for now) VW Golf (6.239).

But it's not just the Leaf to reach  high numbers in Norway and fight with ICE's for segment leadership, it's important not to forget that the Model S main competitors are not EV's, but other "E" segment cars, like the 5-Series and E-Classes of the world, so...

...Despite a strong sales decline, selling just 98 units, the Model S still arrived ahead of their ICE segment competition. Adding these 98 sales with the Leaf score and the rest of EV's, the YTD EV share just kept on improving, now in 4,58%.

The rest of the market is far from these numbers, with the only real news being the arrival of the VW e-Up!, a car that should see success in this EV-hungry market.

Canada October 2013

Not really a newcomer, but then again, Canada is short on new EV's this year...

All the Same in the Northern Front Edition

If the Canadian EV market could be described in just one word, that would be "Solid". With 189 sales in October, it's walking in the growth direction (very) slowly.

In the models ranking, the 1 (Volt) - 2 (Model S) - 3 (Leaf) tradition stands true, with the Prius Plug-In registering (again) just 7 units, a bad performance if you consider that the same model was #1 south of the border, scoring even a new personal best monthly score there.
