Zotye Cloud EV - Climber Of The Month

"A Whole Lot Of Shakin' Going On" Edition

The Chinese EV market is back at record levels, registering more than 11.000 units for the first time and improving an amazing 160% YoY, with the EV Share continuing to rise (It's currently at 0.42%), the market continues on fire and with a certain BYD Tang ready to hit the streets, prepare for even higher numbers in the near future.

Looking at the models ranking, the #1 seems destined for BYD in the following years, in the moment it's the Qin that just keeps on going in its never-ending record spree (Now at 3.518 units), but insiders say that the Tang will have even larger numbers to present...

Below the Qin it's where the fun stuff begins, with the BAIC E-Series presenting its best performance of the year (1.500 units) and rising to #2, changing places with the Zotye E20, that sold only 1.079 units, its worst result in the last three months.

But it wasn't all bad for Zotye, as the E20 larger brother, the Cloud/Z100 EV has shattered its own record, selling 1.160 units, rising two positions in the ranking to #4, displacing at the same time the Chery QQ EV to #5.

The Roewe 550 PHEV also shined, selling 711 units and going up one position to #6, leaving the BYD e6 as the loser of the month, down two positions to #7.

Besides the BYD Qin, the only other model to remain in the same position was the Tesla Model S, in #8, while below it we have a new contender in the Top 10, the Geely-Kandi Panda EV is now #9, dropping the Chery eQ to #10

Three Running for #1

Some 1.700 EV's were sold last month in Germany, representing a 24% increase regarding the same month last year, with the EV Share slightly up (0,01%) over the previous month, now at 0,6%.

This is one of the most anticipated markets here on EVS, in no minor part because of the constant changes in the top spots, looking at the last monthly ranking, the Outlander PHEV won its first #1 of the year, selling 313 units (A new Personal Best), with the Golf GTE (222 units) in Second, followed by the Audi A3 e-Tron, i3 and Zoe.

This is the most fragmented EV Market in the world, so the YTD ranking is a reflection of this, with constant leadership changes, last month was no exception, the Mitsu Outlander PHEV jumped from Third to the Leadership, although the previous #1 (Golf GTE) is just seven units behind (1.001 vs 994), even the Third BMW i3 is only 132 units behind, so any of these can be Leader next month.

The Audi A3 e-Tron cemented its #4, and now it's looking to reach for the podium seats .

The Renault Zoe climbed one position, to #9, but it is far from the #3 won last year, speaking of slow sellers, regarding last year, the Smart Fortwo ED is down six positions to #8  and the VW e-Up! is down seven positions to #11.

Among the new models, the Mercedes C350e has gotten to a promising start, with a Top 10 place in its sights.

All hail the new leader

The Beauty and the Beast III

211 units were registered last month, the second best result of the year, with the EV Share stable at 1.24%.

Looking at the models ranking, there was a leadership change, the Tesla Model S was down to #2, changing positions with the surprising Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia, news leaders in the YTD ranking by just one unit(!) (344 vs 343 units), this is the first time that the japanese twins reach the #1 spot anywhere in the world, will they remain in the leadership next month?

June is usually a strong month for Tesla, so i doubt it, but you never know...

The Nissan Leaf continues in #3, but sales were only 2 units last month (Feeling the heat from the Evalia?), and the BMW i3 and Renault Zoe took the chance to get a little bit closer.

Finally, the VW e-Golf returned to #6, surpassing the e-Up! relative, while the Mercedes C350e has landed with a bang, establishing itself right away like a serious candidate for the PHEV Best Seller of the Year.

The Hong Kong EV Market continues to amaze, with sales going through the roof and record sales happening almost every month, translated in an EV Share of 2.8%, the third highest in the world, only behind the Netherlands (5.65%) and Norway (21,8%).

Tesla has struck gold here, with more than 400 units sold this year, while the BMW i3 is also enjoying the taste of success, selling 124 units to date and will probably double the number of sales it had last year. 

In a van-friendly market, the e-NV200 is also showing itself, preserving its Third spot from the rest of the competition.

Another PHEV to steal sales from the regular ICE SUV's

Plug-In Hybrids on the Rise Edition

Some 2.500 sales were registered last month, up 60% YoY, with the EV Share slightly up to 21,96%, one could say that the 20-something Share is the new normal...

In May the Top Two positions belonged to the usual top players (e-Golf and Model S), but below these two, several plug-in hybrids appear, thanks to new incentives for this kind of vehicles, PHEV's get a boost in sales, with the Outlander PHEV in Third with 258 units (Best result in the last 14 months), followed by the VW Golf GTE (221 units) and the Audi A3 e-Tron in Fifth (176 units, tied with the Nissan Leaf).

Speaking of Nissan Leaf, the japanese sales have slowed significantly, to have an idea, twelve months ago, Nissan's EV registered 342 units, now it accounted just 176...

Looking at the YTD ranking, the Outlander PHEV switched positions with the A3 e-Tron, rising to #5 and being now the Best Selling Plug-In Hybrid. 

The Golf GTE jumped five positions to #9, entering the Top 10 and stealing the Rookie Of The Year title from the Merc B-Class ED.

A sign of the more welcoming times for plug-in hybrids is the fact that the BEV / PHEV share is now at 82 / 18, when last year, PHEV's had just 10%.

Looking ahead, Renault made a 300 Kangoo ZE fleet deal with the Norwegian Postal Service, so expect the french van sales to increase significantly in the coming months.

Rise... Edition 

The French EV market continues in good health, with more than 1.800 units sold last month, pulling the EV Share definitely above the 1% barrier, to 1.11%, and with YTD sales rising 75% YoY, it looks that the French market is finally on the right track, but the same can't be said about the domestic models...

...There was a time when domestic carmakers, along with that honorary french named Nissan, had this market almost all to themselves (They ended 2014 with 81% of the market), but this year the Status Quo is being questioned by VAG Empire Group, with VW, Audi and Porsche all registering record numbers, their sales Share rose from 3% last year to 13% and i suspect that VAG could reach some 30% next year.

Proof of that is the last monthly best sellers ranking, if the Renault Zoe continues in #1 (No surprises here), the VW Golf GTE sets a new high for Plug-in hybrids, reaching #2 with 194 units, a new monthly record for a PHEV model in France. 

The Audi A3 e-Tron has become another frequent customer of the Top 5, selling 134 units, both launching great prospects for VAG reaching one (two?) podium seat.

Looking at the YTD ranking, while the podium positions remain stable, the Bolloré Blue Car was down two positions to #5, being surpassed by the VAG cousins Golf GTE (#4) and A3 e-Tron (#5), something that illustrates well how the market is going...

Looking ahead, June is usually a strong month, so expect a great (record?) month for the Zoe, and with the Bolloré now being assembled in Dieppe's Renault factory, the french EV should also see a rise in sales.
