30% Share in October!
With the market growing three-fold in October, and last month PEV share reaching 30%(!) share, sales are flying through the ceiling, this year sales are jumping at 2.472 units, up 215%, with the market share at a record 13%.
This is only the second market to reach the two digits and the mainstream market, after Norway. At this pace, i wouldn't be surprised if the market share reached some13% 15% by year end.
At this pace, expect this market to reach 50% share in 2021...Outlandish? Maybe, but i believe it's possible.

Looking at the models ranking, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is firm in the leadership, with the remaining podium positions also steady, so we have to go down to Fifth Palce to see some action, with the VW e-Golf climbing to #5, same position as last year.
The Rookie of the Year Renault Zoe returned to #7 and Best Seller of its class (B-Segment/Subcompact), while the BMW 330e (8 units, best deliveries month) climbed to #16.
Down below, two new additions are already climbing the success ladder, with the Kia Niro PHEV jumping to #22, thanks to 14 units, while the #24 Volvo XC60 PHEV did even better, delivering 18 units in its first full sales month.

In the brands ranking, Mitsubishi (27%) is in the leadership, followed by the #2 Nissan (21%) and #3 Volvo (11%), but with Volkswagen (9%) and BMW (8%) on the lookout for a podium seat.

In a market that reached 26% share in August, plug-ins are becoming more and more synonym with best sellers, despite not having access to the models ranking, we do have access to regular hybrid sales.
If we add regular hybrids to plug-ins, the high share of these last ones is noticeable, as regular hybrids are pushed out of the podium, with their two representatives, being only Fourth and Fifth.
If we add regular hybrids to plug-ins, the high share of these last ones is noticeable, as regular hybrids are pushed out of the podium, with their two representatives, being only Fourth and Fifth.
Looking at the Top 5 best sellers, we see representatives of each technology, with two PHEVs (#1 Outlander PHEV and #3 Volvo XC90 PHEV), one BEV (#2 Nissan Leaf) and two HEVs (#4 Yaris Hybrid & #5 RAV4 Hybrid),.
As plug-ins continue to increase share, expect at some point in the future this Top 5 to be 100% PEV.

Great !!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jose for highlighting the monthly market share.
Actually, with your figure for plug-ins sales (336) and the ACEA.be figure for all passenger cars sales (also for October) (1,114) (see source below), it would seem that the share is actually 30.2% !!!
(Maybe you have a total sales figure which includes commercial vehicles?)
Anyway... Super Great.
Ciao

Thanks for the input, i had missed that!
DeleteI have updated the article accordingly.
Wow - incredible figures from Iceland and even better news is how clean the Icelandic electricity supply is!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long it will be until Tesla enters the Icelandic market?
I'm sure they must be keeping an eye on Iceland. ;-)
DeleteThere are 66 Teslas in Iceland so far. :P Surely they will do some batch deliveries of the Model 3 at least when it comes to Europe.
