Netherlands April 2014 (Updated)

This Beauty seems to be condemned to be the Runner-up in Holland...
Outlander is Back! Edition

After some months of relative low-profile, the 2013 Best Seller Outlander PHEV is back in charge with over 1.560 sales, followed at a distance by the V60 Plug-In (401 units), with these two pulling the EV market to 2.251 registrations, best month of the year.

Far and away from the first two, there's the rest of the competition, with the VW e-Up! in Third, with 90 sales, followed by the archenemy BMW i3 (77 units) and in #5 we have the Model S from Tesla (49 sales), probably waiting for more stock to refill dealers.

The EV share is up again to 4,21% and the question now is...Will it reach the 5,55% recorded last year?

  1. HI, what could explain the popularity of PHEV over EV in Netherlands? I understand that in Canada, with our large territory and our sprawl in the suburbs, people choose this option, but in Netherlands, with small distances between cities and a high density of population, there are probably many charging stations across the country. I would expect more EVs like in Norway, no?

It's a long story J-F, but to go short: purely tax incentives at work. The difference in the incentive is so small, that it just doesn't balance out. The added practical usability (for long distance travel etc.) at the low extra price is simply a no-brainer. Exactly the reason I ordered my V60 D6 over a i3 last month - it saves me from needing a 2nd car for my monthly travel to our house in the countryside, which is undoable in a BEV

  2. Hi Jose,

There is a big difference between your figure for the e-Up! and this site: http://www.zerauto.nl/2014/05/06/verkopen-elektrisch-aangedreven-autos-in-de-lift/

    Can you explain that?

    1. Hi Arne,

      Thanks for the tip!

    2. I think the e-Up! stats of Zeroauto are too low for the e-Up!, so in this case i'll stick to my estimate.
