1-2 Win For Golf Twins

There were 3.826 new plug-ins sold in Norway last month, up 44% YoY, with the EV Share stable at 28,7%.

In August, the VW Golf GTE managed to end in First Place, winning its second Monthly Best Seller Trophy (April was its first), this time followed by its all-electric twin, the e-Golf.

The Mitsu Outlander PHEV went down to Third, ending the month with its worst result (356 units) since January. Troubles ahead for the Japanese company?

On the other hand, the #5 BMW i3 registered 293 units, all from the BEV variant, being its best result in 7 months.

Looking at the year-to-date ranking, if the podium positions remain the same, there are significant changes below the Fifth Position, the BMW i3 jumped three places to #6, while the VW e-Up! climbed one position to #12, thanks to 114 registrations, its best result since January, but the most important shift lies much lower...

...The Tesla Model X had its first real deliveries month, with 168 registrations, shooting nine positions to #22, surpassing three direct adversaries (Cayenne Plug-In, Merc GLE500e and Audi Q7 e-Tron) in the Luxury SUV class, with the current leader (#13 BMW X5 PHEV) some 500 units ahead, is it possible for the Minivan / SUV / Sports Thingy to still reach the leadership? I wouldn't bet against it.

At the bottom of the ranking there are two debuts to mention, the BMW 740e landed with an impressive 12 units, shooting straight away for the F-Segment/Full size class leadership, while the Hyundai Ioniq Electric registered its first four units, the good-looking Korean model has a lot of potential, but will depend on the Manufacturer willingness to make it in sufficient numbers (Do you hear that, Kia?) and to update it in a timely fashion, i mean, 28kWh battery is sooo 2015...

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, Volkswagen (31%) continues in the lead, followed from a far by Mitsubishi (14%) and Nissan (13%).

The percentage of plug-ins in the general ranking is so significant, that we've decided to make a separate table for the breakdown of models by fuel source:

With 29% share, the EV's performance in the general ranking is increasingly more relevant, of the 1.214 units sold by the leader VW Golf in August, only 306, or 25%, didn't had a Plug.

Splitting models by fuel source, it is a Toyota vs Volkswagen clash, with these brands monopolizing the Top 6 positions, with the Toyota RAV4 being a surprising best selling model, outselling the VW Golf twins (#2 GTE and #3 e-Golf), with the VW Tiguan rising to #5, a good indication for the success of the upcoming Tiguan GTE...

The remaining plug-ins in the Top 10 are the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, #7 with 356 units, and the Nissan Leaf in #8, making it two BEV's, two PHEV's, three HEV's and three regular ICE's. Talk about diversity...How long will it take until other markets will be like this?
