Nissan Leaf Climbs to Third
Canada's plug-in market continues to grow, with 1.322 new registrations being made in July, up 21%YoY, with the YTD EV Share at 0.7% share.
Will we see this market breach the 1% barrier for the first time this year? I wouldn't bet against it.
With the Volt comfortably seated on the Best Seller seat, Chevrolet should have been focused in delivering its new baby, the Bolt, but with only 117 deliveries last month (Fourth drop in a row), Chevy's BEV model seems to have hit a deliveries bottleneck, let's hope that this downward trend ends soon and GM finally decides to allocate enough units to satisfy demand. Or is it something else driving this drop?
Looking at the remaining models, the Nissan Leaf had a year best(!) performance, with 148 registrations, rising to Third, while the Hyundai Ioniq Electric climbed to #8, thanks to 102 deliveries, the Korean importer seems to have been awarded with enough units that could allow the BEV to reach #6 by year end.
Also shining is the Ford Focus Electric (Yes, that same one), with 87(!!) units, its third monthly record in a row(!), allowing it to climb another position, to #11.
In the manufacturers ranking, Chevrolet has its leadership secured, with 35% share, followed by Tesla (18%) and Nissan (9%).
Looking into August preliminary results, the big news were the dismal performance of the Chevrolet Bolt, with only 82 units, its worst result since January, and far from the result of its Volt (295 units) sibling.
As for Toyota, the local importer provided 91 units (Quebec-Only data), once production catch up with demand, we could see it in the Top 8 soon.

The drop in Bolt delivery is heartbreaking (even worse in August as you said) with so many people awaiting for it.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happening in Norway, with thousand of people awaiting, but in this month of September, only 8 were delivered so far...:(
