Finland November 2017

Volvo: Now in Third

Record Month

Finland has become one of my favorite markets to report, because news are always good, and November was no exception, with a record 357 PEV's sold, up 179% regarding the same month last year, with the PEV Share reaching a best ever 3.7% in November, pulling the 2017 share to a record 2.5%.

The 109% YoY progression this year is even more impressive, considering the overall stagnating (-0.5%) local auto market.

In a traditionally PHEV-friendly market (83% share), BEVs are growing faster (+141%) than plug-in hybrids, which is a good sign for the upcoming long range BEVs, scheduled to arrive next year.

In a record month, there are plenty of good results across the table, with the leader Mercedes GLC350e scoring 53 registrations, its best result in five months, while the runner-up improved its personal best to 31 deliveries last month.

But the hero of the month was once again Volvo, mostly thanks to the recent XC60 PHEV, grabbing 78 deliveries in its only third month on the market (New monthly record for a single model), jumping to Fifth Place, while the S90 and V90 PHEV twins also impressed, delivering 29 units last month and climbing to #12 in the YTD ranking.

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, Mercedes (20%, down 1%) is at the top, with a 21 units lead over BMW (20%, also down 1%) in Second, while Volvo (15%, up 4%) is now firm in Third, distancing itself from Volkswagen (11%).

  2. IMHO it's not good that there are mostly PHEV, not a big achievement in terms of e-mobility.

    1. True, but consider the local climate and the fact that BEVs do not have particular incentives there.

It's one of those markets where BEVs have more obstacles to experience a sales success.

I guess when affordable long range BEVs arrive, the all-electric share will go up significantly.
