C-Express Edition
The 1.783 new EV's registered last month represent a 98% growth YoY, and with YTD sales already above last year (16k vs 15,3k), there are realistic chances of the 2013 record year be beaten, only two years after it happened.
In August, the Golf GTE increased its leadership streak to four consecutive months, with 425 units, and in Second we have the Mercedes C350e, reaching the podium for the first time and looking to remove the GTE from the top in the coming months.
The Third Best Selling EV was the Audi A3 e-Tron, followed in Fourth by the soon-to-be-restyled Outlander PHEV, with the Tesla Model S rounding up the podium in #5.

Looking at the YTD ranking, few things have changed, the Rookie of the Year Mercedes C350e climbed yet another position and it is now in #5, while at the bottom of the ranking, the Kia Soul EV climbed one position to #21.
Unlike other markets, if you look at the brands ranking, the top positions mirror the models chart. with Volkswagen (Golf GTE) leading with 25% share, followed by Mitsubishi (Outlander PHEV), with 19%, and Audi (A3 e-Tron), with 14%

Hybrids and plug-ins Ranking - Toyota vs The New Kids
Almost a year ago, i combined hybrid sales with those of plug-in vehicles, and then, three out of the top 5 models were of the Plug-in variety. What about now?
Same proportion, with the same two Toyota hybrid models. but with three new plug-ins on stage: VW Golf GTE, Mercedes C350e and Audi A3 e-Tron, meaning that plug-in hybrids are more active and diversified than regular hybrids.
So, why do the Auris and Yaris Hybrids stay afloat the PHEV tide?
Simple, they are at the heart of the market and offer something that is not in direct competition with PHEV's, namely the Auris Hybrid provides a Station Wagon (C'mon VW, make a Golf GTE SW!), while the Yaris Hybrid is a cheap alternative to regular ICE Superminis, and looking at plug-ins, only the BMW i3 Rex could be considered a direct competitor, but is costs twice as much....

thanks for the numbers Jose. reaching 2013 numbers already this years would be stunning, but seems possible. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe whole netherlandish car market is on the rise 22%. And 1783 PHEVs of 31.255 cars means a market share of 5.7%. Not bad considering the incentives are low.
