Norway August 2015 (Updated)

Underdogs Edition

Some 2.600 units were sold last month, up only 41% YoY, with two underperforming EV's recovering their mojo:

- The Nissan Leaf sold 338 units, its best performance in five months, rising to #4 in August general ranking (#7 YTD), staying only behind the all mighty e-Golf in the EV ranking;

- The BMW i3 had second best month ever, with 296 units, only behind the 336 units sold in March '14, enabling it to reach a podium seat in August EV ranking and climb two positions to #7 in the YTD chart, surpassing the Renault Zoe and VW e-Up! and thus making it the new Best Selling plug-in small car;

In the rest of the YTD ranking, the Golf GTE continues to climb positions, it is now up one position to #5, switching places with the Audi A3 e-Tron.

The Soul EV sold 84 units and could sell more, only Kia's norwegian importer has been hampered with small quotas, leading to lots of grey imports from other markets. 

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, the leader VW is stable at 38% share, followed by Tesla (14%) and Nissan (11%), in the remaining podium places.

    Why so low numbers stated for Norway? Ofvas clearly states 2166 BEVs (+572 imported used BEVs) + 468 PHEVs + 32 delivery car BEVs. Bare minimum for the total should be 2634 and I would have put it together with the deliver cars at 2666 (the number of the electric beast =)

    Jose,
    You may have already seen the new law in Russia requiring EV chargers in every gas station. The article first appeared in the Moscow Times. It includes some interesting figures for electric cars in Russia, For example, according to Andrei Toptin head of Autostat only about 500 EVs have been sold in Russia as of July 2015. Mitsubishi has sold 217 I-miev since it was introduced.

    I suppose it was inevitable that sooner or later the percentags growth rate would need to slow down.

    Do you have any idea of the total percentage of cars that are electric? Is it still around the 20%-25% level?

    I'm really anxious to find out what the new 30 kWh battery will do for the LEAF. My guess is it will bring it back to #1.

      I don't know, the e-Golf will be hard to beat, but it will surely be an entertaining thing to see the race between the two.
