Canada January 2017 & February Preview

New Year, Old Story

Canada's EV market started where it left off last year, with sales (803 units) doubling regarding the same month last year, pulling the EV Share to a record 0.7%, and the Chevrolet Volt reigning supreme.

The American car was up 170% YoY, followed by two Teslas, with the Model X (114 deliveries) outselling its older brother Model S (100).

The Nissan Leaf was Fourth, with 65 units, down 10% YoY, is this the start of a sales slowdown for the Japanese Hatch?

Looking at the remaining models, the main news were the good result of the Audi A3 e-Tron (49 units, new record), and the 31 registrations of the BMW X5 PHEV, its best result in 6 months.

In the manufacturers ranking, Chevrolet started in the lead, with 33% share, followed by Tesla (26%) and Nissan (8%).

Looking into February, the Volt improved slightly over January, with 266 units, a new record for any model in February, with the good news for Chevrolet continuing with the first volume delivery month of the Bolt, with 86 units.

The other significant model with available numbers is the Nissan Leaf, with a surprising 113 units, double the sales of February 2016.

Looking at the E-Segment/full-size vehicles, there's no real surprises, with the usual three best sellers in their regular places, with the Mercedes duo in first, followed by BMW and Tesla.

Interestingly, the Tesla Model S continues to be the fastest growing model here, with sales almost doubling regarding January 2016, a stark contrast over the 34% drop of the Mercedes E & CLS duo in the same period.
