Newcomers edition

With 3,524 registrations in March, sales hit a new record, with the March PEV share reaching a new high of 1.9%, pulling the 2018 share to 1.6%.

The Canadian market is being shaken by the arrival of new players, not only the #2 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV continues to improve month after month, registering 351 units in only its third full sales month, but the Toyota Prius Prime (500 units, new record), benefitting from increased inventory, jumped five places into Third, displacing the Chevrolet Bolt from the podium. Chevy's BEV deliveries are stagnating (+3%) in a fast growing market, but according to local sources, it has more to do with production/allocation issues (Not enough batteries?) than low demand.

The new Nissan Leaf is also on the rise, having reached Fifth Place, up two positions, thanks to a record 423 deliveries, while both Teslas benefitted from the usual last-month-of-quarter peak to jump into #6 (Model X) and #10 (Model S).

In a record month, there were several models shining, besides the aforementioned models, the Honda Clarity PHEV reached three digits (119 units) for the first time, the Hyundai Ioniq PHEV (97) almost did the same, the Mercedes GLC350e had great follow-up month (42 registrations), promising a solid career, while the new Porsche Panamera PHEV had 38 deliveries in its first full deliveries month, a new record for the nameplate.

Looking into April preliminary results, the main headline was the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV  braking all records (589 units, new all-time best for a single model) and beating for the first time the Chevrolet Volt (515 units), all while the Prius Prime and the new Leaf continue in high voltage, having delivered 361 and 408 units, respectively.

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, Chevrolet (25%, down 4%) leadership is being eroded, but the runner-up Mitsubishi (11%) is still far.

In Third Place we now have Tesla (10%), with a meagre 17 units advantage over Toyota, also with 10% share.

Due to a horrible start of the year, the Model S hasn't managed to keep its usual Third Spot, with the Mercedes S-Class overcoming it, making a 1-3 podium for Mercedes.

    1. Not at the moment, no.

But expect Electrek to be the first to pull the rabbit out of the bag.
