Croatia June 2016

Volkswagen Turf

We have a new market covered on EV Sales, Croatia, the birthplace of Nikola Tesla.

As such, one would think that Tesla would be big here, not so, this is Volkswagen turf, with 52% of sales.

Still, the Croatian EV market has a very respectable EV Share of 0.4%, higher than Spain (0.35%), for example. And the record 100 units registered last year seems perfectly attainable for this market this year, so positive signs here.

As said before, Volkswagen in the main driving force here, with a 1-2 leadership, with the e-Up! in First, with 21 units, followed by the e-Golf, with 7. The e-Up! is quite popular, having been already the 2015 Best Selling EV, with 34 units, another quirk of VW in Croatia is that they only sell BEV's, which probably makes sense, as PHEV's have only 18% share and the Mitsubishi I-Miev sells at the same level of its Outlander PHEV brethren(!).

And Tesla? After the 5 units registered last year, now it has 2 units, allowing it a discrete #9.

With the the Nissan Leaf and Outlander PHEV present, the Renault absence is strange, as this is BEV-friendly market, where the Zoe could do some damage to VW lead.

  1. Actually, Nikola Tesla was born in Austrian Empire, on location which is nowadays Croatia. He was Serb but moved to America because of work.
