The shift in China’s EV market is definitely interesting, with BEVs showing significant growth while PHEVs are seeing a slight decline. This could indicate a growing preference for fully electric vehicles as battery technology and infrastructure continue to improve.
As the market evolves, it’ll be fascinating to see whether this trend holds, especially with the increased focus on environmental policies. Do you think PHEVs will make a comeback as plug-in hybrids or is BEV the clear future direction?
Depends on the market. I do not think PHEVs will recover much in China, as the BEV S curve is now on the steepest part. But other markets? Europe? Yes, there is still space for PHEVs, especially those with usable (> 100 km WLTP) electric range.
