Italy February 2014

Fortwo beats Twingo

Italy used to be a safe haven for the Renault Twizy, but not anymore, after the Nissan Leaf and Volvo V60 winning monthly #1's last year, now in February it's the Smart Fortwo ED beating the french ev at the top of the table, selling 30 units (Fleet deal maybe?).

The other ev with decent sales is the japanese Leaf, with 13 units, while the Volvo V60 is just #6, pulling the PHEV share down four points to 7%.

USA February 2014

Tesla Is Back Edition

A positive month for the US EV market, with 7.055 units sold in February, 28% above the same month last year.

Looking at the models ranking, we see the comeback of the Model S, #2 with 1.400 units, just behind the #1 Nissan Leaf (1.425 units), relegating the Chevy Volt (1.210 units) to the Third spot. Also in the four digit area, the Prius Plug-in (1.041 sales) secures #4, followed by the Energi brothers from Ford, with the Fusion (779) winning over the C-Max (552).

Looking at the brands ranking, Ford is going strong these days and it's now just a few units behind Nissan (#1 with 21% share), if the american brand keeps this pace, March will see Ford reaching the top spot for the first time ever.

Outlander Feeling at Home Edition

Updadated with Twizy and Model S numbers

We start February reports with Sweden, where 208 units were sold, the second best score ever, only behind the 277 sales registered a year ago.

Looking at the models ranking, the Outlander is increasingly more comfortable at #1, leaving the rest of the competition way behind, while Volvo is showing an unexpected low level of sales, with the V60 Plug-In only #4 in February.

World Top 10 January 2014

This time the Outlander PHEV didn't pose a threat to the Leaf

Leaf high above

The year started with the Leaf breaking the 100.000 units sold and to celebrate, the japanese hatch collected an easy #1, tripling sales of the #2, the Outlander PHEV.

The fight for the last place in the podium was close, with just 61 units separating the #3 Tesla Model S (1.083 units)from the #5 Chevy Volt (1.022). In the middle of the two came the Prius Plug-In (1.062 units).

Behind these, we see an encouraging BYD Qin, with 673 sales in its first complete sales month.

Finally, the Smart Fortwo ED continued to climb in the ranking, now at #9, and the Volvo V60 Plug-In achieved a #10 position, proving to be a winning bet from the swedish automaker.

Looking at the brands ranking, while Nissan shines above everyone and Mitsubishi is comfortable in #2, the third place is pretty tight, with Ford beating Toyota, Chevrolet and Tesla and ending in the last place in the podium. BYD profits from the Qin sales to achieve #7, while Renault drops to #8...

Europe January 2014

1.500 customers are already waiting for it
Post-Orgasmic Chill Edition

After several record breaking months, no doubt fueled with dutch sales, the european market took a moment to breath and enjoy the moment, but somehow the Nissan Leaf kept on pressing sales, with 1.243 units sold, its second best score ever. The Volvo V60 Plug-In (439 units), was second and in third we have the Volkswagen e-Up!, a strong performer these days.
On the other hand, Renault showed a poor performance, with the Zoe just in #7 and the brand dropping to #2 and 13% share, way behind Nissan (28% share).
Last year the french brand had 37% share...

Belgium January 2014

Upside Down Edition

Another great month for EV sales in Belgium, with 112 units sold and a very expensive podium: The Porsche Panamera is #1 (!) with 29 units, followed by the Model S and V60 Plug-in tied in #2 with 21 units.

Is it a coincidence that sensible Belgium prefers high-end plug-ins or is it a trend that will be transmitted to other countries? Only time will tell.
