Netherlands July 2015

Golf GTE Edition

The 2.234 new EV's registered in July represent a surge of 153% YoY, this number could be inflated by the rumours that plug-ins will have life harder next year in the Netherlands, if that does happen, expect an historic year end, followed by a big sales drought in the beggining of 2016. Returning to the present day, these last positive results are pulling the YTD EV Share upwards, it is now at 6.05%, a new all-time record.

The Golf GTE seems to have taken over the leadership for good, with its third consecutive #1, with its 525 units sold last month representing 38% of the sales of all VW Golf's and if it were to be represented as a single model, it would end up in #14 on the ranking.

In Second we have the Audi A3 e-Tron, with 438 units (61% of all A3's), going from strength to strenght and now poised to remove its GTE cousin from the top.

The Third Best Selling EV was the Mitsu Outlander PHEV, is a bit out of shape, down 36% regarding last year, but it was still the Second Best Selling SUV last month, behind the almighty Nissan Qashqai, representing 95%(!) of all Outlanders and 39% of all Mitsubishi's sold.

The #4 (Merc C350e) continues to impress (343 units, new personal best), representing 71% of all C-Classes, enough to be the best-selling Mercedes in the general ranking and #2 in the D-Segment/Midsize class, only behind the all-new VW Passat.

Looking at the YTD ranking, few things have changed, the rising star Mercedes C350e is now threatening the #5 Tesla Model S, underlining another great month for Mercedes, with the B-Class up another two positions, now at #14, another model in a positive trend is the Ford C-Max Energi, climbing one position to #8, thanks to another record month (113 units).

Looking at the bottom of the ranking, the Prius Plug-In had another surprising good month , rising three positions to #21, now that the model is being discontinued, sales must be on stock clearance mode.

  1. The year-end rush and subsequent dip in sales will occur for plugin hybrids. According to the promises of our minister, fully electric vehicles will keep their current incentives until 2020. Yay!
