April EV Sales Report V - Czechia, Finland, South Africa

- BEVs jump 33%, to 1.7k units, or 8% share;
- Adding PHEVs to the tally, the EV share jumps to 12%
- Best selling BEV was the Skoda Enyaq, 10th overall, with 358 units;
- The Skoda Elroq wasn't far behind, in #12, with 293 units.

- There are 7 BEVs in the overall top 12;
- Skoda Enyaq was 2nd overall, followed by the Skoda Elroq (4th overall) and the VW ID.4 (5th)

- BEVs surge from less than 100 units in April 2025, to the current 565 units;
- This translates into a BEV share of 1.2%, or 2.7%, if we add PHEVs to the tally;
- BYD Dolphin Surf (aka Seagull) was the best selling BEV, with 302 units.

Czech Republic May 2020

Skoda Country

Despite the recent Covid-related slowdown, which made the local PEV market grow just 69% YoY in May, to 179 units, the plugin market in Czech Republic is on fire, up four-fold in 2020, with over 1.700 units already sold this year, with the PEV Share now at 2,4%, with May reaching a less outlandish 1,3%. Still, the market last year ended at 0,5%, so... 

This continues to be a BEV-friendly market, although May saw a drop (58% share) regarding the YTD total (66%).

The reasons for this sudden plugin surge are the #3 Tesla Model 3 volume deliveries, but above all, the deployment of Skoda plugins, with the local brand now owning 53% of the plugin market, and it is expected to continue like this in the foreseeable future.

Looking at the remaining ranking, Hyundai is strong, with two models in the Top 5, and expect the locally-made Kona EV to continue climbing positions, aiming to reach the Bronze medal this year. 

The second half of the table has a number of fresh faces in this market, namely the Ford Kuga PHEV, that is starting to become a success story across the continent, while the Audi e-Tron is finally showing up among the local Best Sellers, endangering the BMW X5 PHEV lead in the full size category.

In the brands ranking, Skoda leading far and wide, with 53% share, while Hyundai and Tesla, both with 11% each, are running for Silver.

Ouside the podium, the 4th placed BMW (5%) is too far from the front positions to aspire a medal, if this happens, it will be the first time since 2013 that BMW is left out of the podium in this market.

Czech Republic January 2020

Skoda makes home market jump to 3% share

The PEV Market in Czech Republic had an historic month in January, with over 600 units registered last month, up 6-fold, with the PEV Share jumping to 3.2%, this being the first time the 1% mark is crossed...And it was done in a big way!

Both powertrain registrations jumped through the roof, with BEVs representing 62% of sales.

This is evidenced by the local heroes Skoda Citigo EV and Skoda Superb PHEV, that on their first real full month on the market, registered 428 units in total, being responsible for a mammoth 69%(!) of the market.

Looking at the remaining 2020 models ranking, Hyundai is the best selling foreign brand, with the #3 Ioniq EV and #4 Kona EV scoring record performances, followed by the #5 Tesla Model 3, with 10 deliveries.

A special mention for the 5 models tied in #6, with BMW placing 2 models (i3 and the new X5 PHEV), along the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and VW Passat GTE, while the Renault Zoe scored a record 7 registrations.

In the brands ranking, Skoda in the lead, with 69% share, followed from a far by Hyundai, with 13%, and BMW (5%).
