Lithuania December 2017

Tesla Model X Wins Lithuania

This EV market has registered 71 units this year, down 12% YoY, with the PEV Share dropping slightly from the record 0.4% of 2016, to the final 0.3% of 2017.

The most popular plug-in in 2017 was by far the Tesla Model X, scoring 16 registrations, being followed from a far by the Nissan Leaf (Third Silver Medal in a row) and VW e-Golf, both with 7 units.

Interestingly, this is one of the few markets where the Model X frankly outsells its Model S relative, which has registered only 4 deliveries.

Interesting is the fact that Lithuania is still a BEV-friendly market, but plug-in hybrids grew sales (+38%) and their share, from only 15% in 2016, to the current 21%, with the Best Selling PHEV, the VW Passat GTE, ending in #4, with five units.

The manufacturers title went for the first time to Tesla, with 29% share, followed by last year winner, Volkswagen (21%), while BMW and Nissan had to share the Third Spot, as both had 11% share and 8 registrations.

VW e-Up! Wins Lithuania

This EV market has registered 82 units this year, up 116% YoY, with the EV Share ending at 0.4%, 2016 can be considered Year One for EV's in this market.

The most popular plug-ins here were the VW e-Up! and Nissan Leaf, with both counted together representing almost half of the market.

The VW e-Up! won this year Best Seller title with 21 units, six more than the 2015 Best Seller, the BMW i3, did then. The Nissan Leaf came close to the German city car, but wasn't enough to surpass it, thus repeating the runner-up status won in 2015.

This is the most important trophy in the little VW electric city car career, which has been hampered by a high selling price.

Other models popular here are the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins, #3, and the Tesla Model S, BMW i3 and Kia Soul, all tied in #4 with six units.

Interesting is the fact that Lithuania is a strong BEV market, with plug-in hybrids accounting for only 15% of the market, with the Best Selling PHEV, the VW Passat GTE, being just #7, with three units.

The manufacturers title went to Nissan, with 32% share, followed by Volkswagen (31%) and BMW (12%), with Tesla just outside the podium, with 11% share.

VW e-Up! Leads in Lithuania

Today we welcome a new market on EV Sales, Lithuania.

This EV market has registered 67 units so far this year, up 78% YoY, with the EV Share at 0.4%, 2016 is already the best year for EV's in this market.

The most popular plug-ins in this market are the VW e-Up!, Nissan Leaf and BMW i3, last year the Bavarian hot hatch took the trophy, with 15 units, but this year the race is between the first two, with the Volkswagen city car in the lead.

If the e-Up! ends up 2016 as the Best Seller, it will be one rare trophy for this model, which is a shame really, as it is a good product, hopelessly hampered by a exaggerated price. C'mon Volkswagen, it's time to price it around 22.000 €...If Smart (Forfour ED) can do it, why can't you?

Other two models popular here are the Nissan e-NV200 / Evalia twins, currently #3, and the Tesla Model S, #4. Interesting is the fact that there are already two Model X running around Lithuanian streets, considering the small size of the market and the recent arrival, it seems Tesla's SUV will be a success story here.

In a global European market heading for PHEV's, it is nice to see Lithuania as a strong BEV market, with plug-in hybrids accounting for only 8% of the market.
