GTE Superstar Edition
A surge in EV sales happpened this January, with 2.506 units, being the best sales month since December '13 and the best January ever by a large margin, to put it in context, the previous January record accounted 532 units...
The big news were the 900 units sold by the Golf GTE, the best result by a single model since May '14, will this be the beggining of a new success story?
Last year leader, Mitsu Outlander PHEV was #2, with 579 units, followed by the #2 in '14, the Volvo V60 Plug-In, while in #4 the Smart Fortwo ED continues to amaze, with 174 units, followed by the Porsche Cayenne Plug-in, with 136 units(!) and the Tesla Model S, that for the first time had three consecutive months above 100 units.
Final mention for the brilliant result of the BMW i8, with a record 31 units and almost outselling its smaller (And cheaper) brother i3 (32 units).

also the A3 was not that bad... But the GTE surely overwhelmed expectations. That means 5,2% market share for EVs (in January!). Cool.

ReplyDeleteMost plug-in cars are company cars. Leasing companies usually do not register a car in the last 6 weeks of the year, they will postpone that to January, helping the resale value.
The December '13 record was an outlier due to the expiration of an incentive @31-12-2013. This was not the case now, and therefore these numbers were to be expected and reflect b.a.u.
And my prediction of stellar GTE sales proved to be true :)

If you think about it, the GTE is really the most appealing VW plug-in, isn't it?
