Golf plug-ins return to form in slipping French market
The French EV passenger car market had its worst result of the year in April, with only 2.119 registrations last month, down 23% YoY, but YTD the market is still up 5% regarding the same period in 2016.
The mass delivery of the 40 kWh version of the Renault Zoe had a hiccup last month, with deliveries down 5% YoY to 939 units, but do not fret too much on this, as it isn't a case of waning demand, but just another production/delivery constraint, something that unfortunately many hot selling EV's suffer from.
In the remaining April top positions, besides the usual Nissan Leaf (#2, with 198 units) and BMW i3 (#4, 100), two German models excel: The Mercedes GLC350e registered 125 units, confirming its fashionable status in the market, while the VW Golf GTE benefitted from the first deliveries of the restyled version to score 83 units, its best result since last October. It seems the German Hot Hatch is back to reclaim its Best Selling PHEV status.

In a market known for its stability, few significant changes occurred, in this case the main news were the climb to Fourth Place by the trendy Mercedes GLC350e, while the 2016 Best Selling PHEV Golf GTE jumped five positions to #17, while its all electric cousin, the VW e-Golf, had its best result in three years(!), delivering 25 units of the new 36 kWh version, rising to #29.
In the brands ranking, Renault (49%) continues to be the Master In Command, followed at a distance by BMW (8%), Mercedes and Nissan (Both with 7%). Expect Volkswagen to recover ground soon, jumping to a share well above its current 2%.
