France July 2013

The Volvo V60 Plug-In joined discreetly the french EV market in June

Zoe goes on holidays Edition

With 943 units sold in July, dipped below the 1.000 units for the second time this year, with the EV Share dropping to 0,80% as consequence of this poor result.

The reason for this decrease in sales was the 46% dip that the Renault Zoe suffered, ending July with just 348 units sold.

The following positions remain stable, with the Kangoo ZE (#2) and Nissan Leaf (#3) firm on their podium positions, but the #4 of the Renault Twizy is endangered by the independent LCV maker Goupil, just 12 units behind, just like the #6 of the Bolloré Blue Car, threatened by the Prius Plug-In, best PHEV in seventh.

Further down the ranking, Mia got a encouraging #6 in July, selling 25 units, and the Mitsubishi I-Miev had its best month since 2011, selling...7 units.

Germany July 2013

The first 23 units of the BMW i3 landed this July

Leaf Fights Back Edition

After the 228 units sold by the Renault Zoe in June, in July the Nissan Leaf responded with a new personal sales record, scoring 230 sales, a second monthly #1, and also closing in to its french cousin on the YTD chart.

Unlike other markets, this one kept on improving sales in July, registering 633 units sold, a year best, thanks to the Zoe/Leaf sales competition and the landing of the homeboy BMW i3, which will surely join the previous two on the monthly fight for #1. A side effect of this sales growth is the EV Share rising to 0,195%, now just 0,003% behind last years score of 0,198%.

On a market predominantly BEV, the only Plug-In Hybrid to score significant sales is the Opel Ampera, this year down to #6 and 7% share, when in 2012 it was #2 and had 14% share.

Finally, in the brands ranking, Renault (35%) recovered the #1 spot from Smart (32%), with Nissan a distant third placed, with 15% share.

Netherlands July 2013

Tesla's Model S is the latest addition to the dutch market
Volt passes Ampera Edition

With 304 units sold, the Dutch market had a below average sales month, leading the EV share to drop 0,1% to 1,09%.

In the models ranking, the Chevrolet Volt had a personal best (73 units) score, surpassing for the first time its european cousin Opel Ampera in the monthly ranking and recovering the third spot in the YTD ranking, changing positions with the Nissan Leaf, #5 in July and #4 in the YTD ranking.

Looking just at BEV's, the best result went for the Renault Zoe, with 26 units, but it's still 78 units behind the YTD leader, the Nissan Leaf.

Looking at the brands ranking, Toyota is now #1 with 38%, followed by last years leader, Opel (27%) and Renault, with 15%.

Finally, the Tesla Model S had its first registration in the Netherlands, the first of many units to be sold here.

Norway July 2013

One of the first Tesla Model S being delivered in Norway

Baby Steps Edition

With just 292 units sold, the norwegian EV market had a horrible month, with almost all models scoring their worst results of the year, with only one bright spot on the horizon.

After the first two units of the Model S being registered last month, in July there were delivered another five units, enough for it to reach #3 in the monthly ranking.

Tesla says that August will be the first volume month of the 800 expected deliveries of the american electric sports-sedan.

And with the competition scoring such poor results, it wont take long for Tesla to reach #2 in the ranking, just behind the poster child Nissan Leaf.

USA July 2013 (Updated)

The funky 500e landed just in time for the summer
Just the Two of Us Edition

With Tesla focused on the Model S landing in Europe, both the Leaf and the Volt were back to their natural top spots, this time with advantage for the japanese car. It will surely be an interesting fight until the end of the year between these two.

On an off month for the US EV market, with 6.744 units sold, staying below the 7.000 units threshold for the first time since February, some models deserve mention, the Prius Plug-In reached #3 in the monthly ranking, it's best ranking since February, the Chevrolet Spark EV reached 103 units in its second sales month and the Fiat 500e landed with a bang, selling 150 units, reaching #7 in the monthly ranking and it's already ahead YTD of its main competitor, the Spark EV. Not bad for a debut month...

For a brand that's reluctant in investing in EV's, Fiat has quite a success in its hands, making one wonder why aren't they more enthusiastic about it, after all, having a cute, fun-to-drive, reasonable priced city car is something that their competitors could only dream about, and yet they hesitate...But i digress.

In July, the subcompact EV king was the 500e, but the Spark EV is just waiting around the corner to take the crown away from the Italian rival.

Sweden July 2013

The Twizy landed this year in Sweden just in time for the Scandinavian summer

Volvo cements leadership Edition

With just 105 units sold in July, the swedish market dropped 30% regarding last month, with the EV share dropping 0,01% to 0,75%.

Volvo recovered the monthly leadership for the first time since March, thanks to a good month of the V60 Plug-in (51 units), scoring its best result since...March.

The Prius Plug-In on the other hand, had a nightmarish month, selling just 18 units, its worst selling month of the year and falling two positions to third in the monthly ranking.

This market prefers Plug-In Hybrids, which have a 68% share, while pure electrics have the the third placed Nissan Leaf as the best-selling model.

Canada July 2013 (Updated)

The new rookie: Ford Fusion Energi
Complete Ranking Edition

Thanks to a post in Greencar Reports, it's now possible to have a complete idea of the Plug-in car fauna in Canada, so here it is the updated Canada's Report for July:

With 204 units sold in July, the Canadian Plug-In market took a dive of 40% regarding the month before, with the horrible result made by the Chevy Volt (42 units, worst sales month of the year) as the main reason for that. Despite this, thanks to the new additions to the ranking, the updated EV share is now at 0,17%, comfortably above last years score of 0,11%.

But it still wasn't this month that the Leaf won an isolated #1 in Canada, it also sold 42 units this month, enough for a tied second place.

Earning a second monthly #1 this year is the Tesla Model S, a surprising success in Canada, now that we have confirmed data regarding Tesla's sales there, sales are actually higher than estimated and is the only model to contest Volt's domination.

Finally, speaking of new additions, all except Tesla's model are in the bottom of the chart and reflect a bit what happens south of the borther, with the exception of the Smart Fortwo ED, receiving here a warmer welcome than in the US.

Thanks to Matthew Klippenstein of Greencar Reports for the updated data.
