Mini Countryman PHEV lands with a bang
Last month the Italian EV market surged 53%, to 359 units, pulling the YTD tally to 1.671 units (+31% YoY) and the PEV share to 0.2%.
While growth is always good, especially in a stagnant market like this one, it is sad to see that this previously BEV-predominant market now has PHEVs winning the majority of sales (55%).

Looking at the models ranking, the top positions are not that different from last year, with the Nissan Leaf in #1 and the BMW 225xe Act. Tourer Second, but the Top 10 has seen the arrival of three Crossover/SUVs, with the trendy Mercedes GLC350e climibing to Third Place and the Tesla Model X to #7.
But the real news in May was the thundering arrival of the Mini Countryman PHEV, with a record 67 units in its debut month, allowing it to jump immediately to #8, considering the success of its relative BMW 225xe AT, with whom it shares the mechanical bits, i wouldn't be surprised to see it reach the podium soon or even become the 2017 Best Seller of the Year.
A mention to the Tesla Model S, delivering 24 units last month, a new all-time best result for an off-peak month, a recurring trend this month in Europe, which might antecipate a super month for the American brand in June. Or is it that Tesla is now delivering their cars in more uniform way? Let's wait for June to find out.
Looking at the manufacturers ranking, BMW is in the lead, with 37%(!) share, followed by Nissan (21%), and Mercedes (18%).
