Hyundai Kona EV rules in Korea

The South Korean market is cooling down, with the last three months witnessing YoY drops, hurting the YTD growth, now at just 10% YoY, with the PEV share dropping from the record 2.3% of July, to the current 2%.

Looking at the models ranking, the Hyundai Kona EV extended its lead over the competition, doubling the sales of the #2 Kia Niro EV.

The Chevrolet Bolt assured the 3rd spot, winning precious ground over the Hyundai Ioniq Electric and the tiny Samsung Twizy, with Hyundai's hatchback profiting from the recent upgrade to surpass the Franco-Korean model.

A final mention to the Hyundai Nexo Fuel Cell model, a model that is seeing its registrations jump six-fold this year, to 3.207 units, making it a success story in Korea, a unique event for a FCEV, allowing the technology to have 0,22% share of the total market, a world best for Fuel Cells.

  1. Any ideas about the possible cause for the recent drop? A subsidy cut or something else?

    1. Waiting for the Tesla Model 3 invasion...? (half kidding / half serious as the first carrier specially chartered to South Korea by Tesla arrived at the end of October and another some weeks ago).

Will have to make an Australia post soon, but yes, the Model 3 has landed in both markets, and backlog is being delivered.

  4. José, in this link: https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-model-3-becomes-the-4th-best-selling-imported-car-in-south-korea-in-just-20-days-of-november-2019, there is the number of Tesla model 3 delivered in South Korea in November (1.207), and for the year up to the end of November (1.218). It give also a comparison with other medium luxury sales their for November (in the same chart but is difficult to know what are exactly the other cars apart the Q7).
