Record Edition

August accentuated the recent upward sales trend, with 14.482 units registered, a new record, with YoY sales up a very healthy 63%. With September known to be one of the hottest selling months of the year, expect sales to reach some 16.000 units, with YTD registrations headed to some 160.000 units.

The Star Of The Month was the Tesla Model S, winning for the Fourth time the Monthly Best Seller titls, delivering some 2.925 units, up 156% YoY, an impressive performance for a car that has been on the market for four years.

Looking below, we assist to a stable ranking, with a best ever performance of the BMW X5 PHEV (Responsible for 21% of all X5 sales), with 876 units, while the VW e-Golf did a year best performance, with 454 units.

In the manufacturers ranking, Tesla (28%, up 1%) is comfortable in the leadership, while Chevrolet (18%) is doing a good job at keeping Ford (17%) at bay.

On a side note, 371 Toyota Mirai's and 2 Hyundai Tucson FCEV were registered, surprising numbers for the Toyota, that obliterated past performances and pushed the FCEV market share to a record 0.02% in August and 0.01% YTD..

The Model S has made it to the silver medal in August, surpassing the BMW 5-Series, with only the new Mercedes E-Class separating the Californian from the leadership, something that eventually might happen in September.

The Tesla Model S has probably peaked its sales by now, running tyre-to-tyre with the best sellers of its class and leaving its newest relatives (Model X and upcoming Model 3) an impressive model to follow.

The Model X has a tougher job than the Model S, not only it has a larger (And more dynamic) number of competitors, but because of the SUV-Craze, they are selling faster than their sedan relatives, in August the Model X arrived in #7, waiting for a more streamlined production in order to reach a podium position.
