12% Share! *
We start September with Sweden, the local plug-in market was up 20% YoY, with 2,308 registrations, with the yearly tally growing 53% to 20,316 units, with the 2018 PEV Share recovering to 7%, thanks to the 12% share of September. With the all time record of 7.2% close to be beaten, One wonders if the final 2018 PEV share can reach the 10%. One thing is certain, two-digit monthly results should become the norm from now on...
* - PEV share in September, consequence of a new fiscal system started on July 1st, where regular ICE models see their taxes increased (Malus), with the same being partially true regarding HEVs and low-range PHEVs, to the profit of eficient, longer-range PHEVs, and BEVs.
As expected, the major growth engine were all-electric models, that grew 37% YoY, while PHEVs had a slower growth (+14%) in September.
Also telling of the new times, Diesel sales sank once again, with this fuel representing only 31% of last month sales, a 17%(!) drop over the same month in 2017.
One thing is certain, if previously i believed that Diesel sales could be dead here by 2022/3. Now, i think it could be even earlier, maybe by 2021. And to think that in 2012, Diesel had 67% of the market...
Looking at last month Best Sellers, the VW Passat GTE is back at the drivers seat, followed by the Kia Optima PHEV (260 units) and the recently rejuvenated Outlander PHEV (242 units)
The Renault Zoe took full advantage of the new system, and ended the month in Fifth, with a record (the third on a row) 191 registrations. This means that Sweden is finally opening up to the French hatchback, now being regularly the Best Selling BEV on the market.

Looking at the 2018 ranking, several changes happened, the main news were the two Kia PHEVs switching positions, with the Kia Optima PHEV up one position to #2, while the Kia Niro PHEV was down to Third.
Other significant changes benefitted BEVs in the table, with the Nissan Leaf climbing to #7 and the Renault Zoe going to #8, while the Tesla Model S returned to the Top 10, thanks to a surprising 173 deliveries, its best result in 18 months.
The Tesla Model X also returned to the Top 20, in #19, profiting from the new, BEV-friendly legislation.
A final mention to the Mini Countryman PHEV, up to #13, thanks to a pb result of 85 registrations.
In the manufacturers ranking, Volkswagen (21%, up 1%) is the new leader, while the #2 Kia (19%, up +2%) is benefitting from the new system to climb positions, while Volvo (18%) is sliding down, due to their heavy reliance on short range PHEVs.
Having PHEVs in the lineup is not enough anymore Volvo, now you need a couple of BEVs on the mix too…
