Ireland October 2014 (Updated)

Getting Colder Edition

As the year enters its final quarter, Irish sales start to freeze, in this highly seasonal market, but ev's still behaved better than expected, 11 were sold in Ireland last month, representing a warm 0,64% share for plug-ins, placing the YTD EV Share at 0,27%, way above the 0,07% recorded last year, with total sales mounting up to 252 units, which is more than the two previous years combined!

This is Nissan Leaf dominion, with 188 units sold and 75% share, while the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is cementing its runner-up position, which is something to consider, in a predominantly BEV market (Pure electrics made up for 99% of the market until the arrival of the japanese SUV).

  1. I'm rather baffled by how little and how much sales in Iceland and Ireland differ. Anyway, getting cooler, you could say that again! A balmy 16C this Halloween, now it has been reaching to a nippy 3C every night now.

We will in no way reach 300 units, but we will get the Audi A3 e-tron this month. Just look at it! There are only 4 offerings that are still sold now that were sold last year (This excludes the defunct Fluence Z.E.). Now, that number has doubled!

Next January, we will really see how the new comers and the LEAF perform! I cannot wait.

    UPDATE:

    Woops...

Alright, this was my bloody fault here! I'm still not sure if beepbeep.ie still finalises its sales after a few days, regardless, I found those unknown 'Unknowns'! They were indeed Audi A3 e-trons. Two must've been sold early in October. It almost outsold the 3 petrol versions, not bad for a first and late month of sales!

So, I'm afraid to say that two Audi A3 e-trons would need to be added and overall share will be 0.64% with 13 sales.

    1. Days are getting colder here too, let's hope it doesn't stop EV's to keep on selling at a fast pace.

Thanks for the tip, i've updated the post with the e-Tron sales.

    2. That's great! Also, you're in Portugal! How does it get cold there? Your winters are some of our best summers! Haha!

    3. Also of note, I went back to the website there... Its 2014 sales appear to be missing. That's a bit of a worry.

    4. For us, anything below 15ºC is cold...This week, i had to wear a coat, imagine that! And to think last weekend i was still wearing a t-shirt and shorts...

Weather jokes aside, last Tuesday we had our first snowfall in the northern mountains (Serra da Estrela and Tras-os-Montes), so as you can see, not all of Portugal enjoys the subtropical climate of the Algarve or Lisbon. :-)

    5. Humph! You get sun and snow?! The latter has yet to fall after 3 years waiting for it.

When you hear that the Irish have a temperate climate (good for long battery life), it really is, no exaggeration! We despise and moan at all kinds of weather, the rare extremes just makes the day exciting and the year worth remembering.

Still, I should know that your mountain tops would have snow on them. I only know Portugal as dry and blisteringly sunny. I've only been to Faro once. First time I saw a cactus!

    6. Despite being a small country, Portugal has diverse climates, from the extreme temperatures in the Northeast, with cold winters and hot summers, to the wetter and more moderate climate of the Northwest, then to the more Subtropical weather in the South.

In Spring, some funny things can happen, while some might be still skiing in the Serra da Estrela, others in the Algarve are already enjoying the sun on the beach.

As for the islands, its easy to predict the weather there, rain in the Azores and warm and sunny in Madeira, where they even get 20' C in the peak of Winter!
