Renault Zoe earns Best Seller Trophy

Currently one of the hottest markets in the world, Austria plug-in sales were up 87% YoY, with 2016 ending with 5.237 units, placing the EV Share at a record 1,6%.

Looking at the models ranking, the Renault Zoe managed to hold off the BMW i3 rise and win its Third Best Seller title in Austria (After the 2013 and '14 titles), if by only 40 units. Curiously, in 2014 the Zoe won the title with a meager six units lead over the BMW i3...

Looking at the rest of the competition, despite the growth in sales (Up 17%), the 2015 Best Seller Tesla Model S dropped to Third Place, while the Rookie of the Year was undoubtedly the Audi Q7 e-Tron, which ended in a remarkable Seventh Place, becoming also the 2016 Best Selling PHEV and Best Selling SUV. That's a lot of trophies for a model that only landed in June...

One of the quirks of the Austrian automotive market is the love for seven-seaters and MPV's in general, with the Mercedes B250e winning this particular trophy, while its #6 position being one of the highest standings of the all-electric Mercedes around the world.

In the manufacturers ranking, BMW came from below (Fourth in 2015 with 12% share) to win its first manufacturers trophy, with 21% share, ending a four-year reign of Renault, now Second with 19% share, with Tesla (14%) ending in Third.

Unlike other fast-growing European markets, where the bulk of growth comes from PHEV's, in Austria plug-in hybrids remain significantly behind BEV's, with only 23% share, with all-electric vehicles actually winning 4% share regarding 2015, a rare thing these days in Europe and something that should be be in account by the powers that be...
