Smart Fortwo ED: Small, but with a feisty personality |
Smart Fortwo running for Fifth
The French EV passenger car market registered some 2.900 registrations, up 34% YoY, with the YTD now above 29.000 units, translating in a 23% YoY growth rate below the European average.
Much of this slow growth (Yes, in the current days, growing 23% YoY is considered "slow") can be attributed to the Renault Zoe, that for some strange reason has seen its registrations dip 4% regarding the same month last year, an event that is even more unexpected, if one considers the French carmaker still has a waiting list to fulfil. Something strange is happening at Renault...
Elsewhere in October, the Nissan Leaf hangs on in Second, with 234 deliveries, a remarkable performance considering the upcoming renewal, while the Smart Fortwo ED has been warmly received in French territory, delivering 150 units last month, a new record for the nameplate, and considering that Smart is playing hard to promote its electric offering, the diminutive two seater should become a familiar face in the monthly podium.
Pl | Model | Sales |
1 | Renault Zoe | 775 |
2 | Nissan Leaf | 234 |
3 | BMW i3 | 210 |
4 | Smart Fortwo ED | 150 |
5 | Mercedes GLC350e | 149 |
In a market known for its stability, one has to go down into Seventh Place to notice a position change, with the VW Golf GTE surpassing the Tesla Model S.
But the real news is arrival of the new Smart Fortwo ED to the top positions, it is now #11, but considering its current pace, a Top 10 position will be a given and it might even have a shot at Fifth Place.
Another the recent model to impress is the Mini Countryman PHEV, now at #15, thanks to 92 registrations in October.

In the brands ranking, Renault (41%) continues in the drivers seat, followed at a distance by BMW (9%), while Mercedes and Nissan, both with 7% share, are running for the Bronze Medal.

You don't include light commercial BEVs in rankings? Cause the word on the streets there were 824 of these sold last month in France, 507 of them being Renault Kangoo Z.E.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw Nissan NV200 in lists for other countries, so maybe you should count Kangoo as well? :)
This ranking only cover passenger cars, but yes, i should have made a small comment on those 500 Kangoo ZE.
ReplyDeleteWill be more careful next time.
The performance of Zoe maybe is due to the 500 cars sold in Spain for car Sharing in Madrid, maybe...
ReplyDeletethe german statistics are always right good, but the french statistics are always wrong and underrated it would be better when you stop your french bashing because the data about french ev sales are always wrong ! bye
ReplyDeleteI use the same criteria for every market, counting PEV passenger vehicles (M1 category).
DeleteThere's no particular French bashing here.
for france october 2017 = 3627 sales !1748 + 824+ 1055

This ranking of EV Sales only covers passenger cars, LCVs have teir own ranking, that is published from time to time.
DeleteThat is the difference between our numbers.
20511+4906+8039 = 33456 sales in frane since beginning of 2017

Why isn't Q3 (july august and september) of 2017 covered here? There is a massive drop but couldn't find reasons. Would like to know the reason behind the drop
