Canada December 2014

The stillborn 2nd Gen Volt is already sealing sales to the current one

How High will Tesla Go? Edition

With freezing temperatures, the Canadian EV Market should be delivering smaller amounts, but this time it won't be the case, because AWD Teslas are coming to town (In large quantities, i guess), thus compensating the sales fall of other models, namely the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt.

YTD, sales have grown 66% to almost 5.000 units, putting the EV Share at a still low 0,27%, but this number has been steadily growing, from the 0,03% of 2011, up to 0,11% the next year and 0,17% in 2013. With a whole bunch of new, more adapted to Canadian tastes/needs (PHEV SUV), coming soon, expect this market to continue growing at a steady rate, will we see it get to 8.000 units in 2015?

Looking at yearly performances of individual models, the Chevy Volt ended once again in Number One (It is leader since it got to the market in 2011), with the same market share of last year (31%), despite consumers being already waiting for the 2nd Gen Volt, while the Nissan Leaf benefited from solving the production constraints to double sales and recover the #2 it had lost last year to Tesla, which has lost share in Canada this year, probably something it will be reversed in 2015, with the arrival of the AWD Model S and Model X.

Below the Top 3, the Smart Fortwo ED made an impact (#4, with sales growing some 150%) thanks to great sales deals during the year, and the BMW i3 is also making itself noticed, ending the year in #6.
